Ever seen a "UFO?"
I was tempted to put this in GD, but decided against it.

It was about 1983 that I was dropping my girlfriend off at her house after school. Actually, I was going to go in the house with her and eat some candy that she'd made. Anyway, we got out of the car, and I happened to look up. And there was this huge disc hanging in the sky. It had three big lights on the bottom of it, each a different color. I think they were red, blue and green, but I'm not sure about that. I pointed at it, and asked my gf "What the fuck is that?" She looked up and said that she didn't know. I said "Quick go get your dad." I knew that her dad was interested in "weird" stuff, as I had seen Edgar Cayce books and such in the house. She ran toward the house to get her dad. Suddenly, the object took off and disappeared, without making a sound.

Although, we did as teenagers smoke a little pot now and then, we were coming straight home from school, and hadn't smoked any weed or had any alcohol or anything else. I swear it happened.

Anyone ever have a similar experience?

I promise I'm not joking.

My dad and I were on a canoe trip when I was ten or so and we saw these strange multicolored globes way high up like jets only going way too fast.

7. If a jet can't make a 90 degree turn... then yes.

18. Some jets can...
Harriers and other VIFs can (VIF stands for Vector In Flight) do it all the time. However, I saw something similar to what you're describing -- a small bright light that moved quickly in a straight line from the southern horizon towards the centre of the sky, made a 90 degree turn, and accelerated so fast it was gone from the western horizon almost instantly. Either some hotdog fighter jock was flying a VIF at an extreme distance from my vantage point and took it supersonic heading west, or it was something else. Even my dad the pilot, who has an encyclopedic knowledge of aircraft (and can identify them in flight like no one else I've ever met) couldn't come up with an answer. So thus far, it remains an Unidentified Flying Object, although I am the absolute last person to vouch for little green BEMs from Alpha Centauri or the like. (UFOs do not necessarily imply extraterrestrials, let's be straight about that.)

8. Wednesday..................
about 12:30 AM, I let the dog out as usual around that time, looked into the NW sky and saw this classic UFO type of light. It was a cloudy night, so it was beneath the cloud cover, conical in shape, with the center seemingly spinning counter-clockwise, and a bright flashing light on top. It was completely motionless, not moving left or right, up or down, toward or away. I watched for about 5 minutes and then it just disappeared. I did not see it move off in any direction, it just disappeared. Just like someone turned the lights off. Weird. Never seen anything like it before in my life. Strangely enough, it was right over (my perception anyway) the Avon Park Air Firce bombimg range here in south Central Florida. It was NOT a flare, I've seen those before, it was unlike anything I'd ever seen. Perhaps a secret government prototype aircraft, who knows. I couldn't identify it, so as far as I'm concerned it stands as a UFO.

9. Strangely enough, I have read reports of other sightings at Avon Park.
I will have to find it. Too late to search tonight. All kinds of lovely things went on/going on there.

10. Maybe...
I was returning by air to the west coast after a trip to DC a few years ago (ca. 1995) and as we crossed the area of the country called "The Land Between the Lakes" (Kentucky-Missouri-Illinois borders) and I looked north, toward Illinois, I noticed an object in the sky that didn't appear to be moving over the ground, at approximately our altitude (30K feet?).

There were no lights (it was the middle of the day), no apparent gases or haze around the object, and nothing else remarkable except that it just seemed to be hovering in the atmosphere. I couldn't tell how big it was because I did not know its distance, but I'd guess it was near the size of the aircraft I was in. It was the classic "cigar-shaped object"--oblong and in fact, brown. The clarity with which I recognized the edges of the object suggested it close rather than distant in the hazy summer sky.

I initially thought about alerting other passengers to the object, but I didn't want to seem to be some kind of alarmist. I kept my mouth shut and never said anything about it to anyone for a couple of years.

The thing is, I did not find it all that wierd. Our military has all sorts of experimental craft they don't talk about, and I just figured it was something they produced.

But maybe not...

11. Somewhere near Stratford, Ontario in the 60's
Waaay overhead we could see lights crossing the sky that gradually changed colour and faded in and out and flew wierd criss-crossing patterns. They moved very, very slowly and there were never more than five visible at any one time.

Rational explanations could be a military flight with afterburners cutting in and out, except they were the wrong colour. For a long time I thought it was a large satellite re-entering, but when I saw footage of MIR and the shuttle coming down, it didn't look anything like that.

12. Yes, about 10 days ago
In daylight over the Orinda BART station. No lights or anything, just a small dark disk with a v-shaped notch that rotated slowly like a hawk on a thermal. The upper side was metallic-colored.

13. It was definitely not a plane
1981; driving from my grandmother's to my boyfriend's; about 9 pm; two lane road in rural Pennsylvania.
What I saw completely freaked me out and I'll never forget it. I glanced up through the windshield and saw bright lights in a circular pattern just kinda hovering in the sky above the road, not moving. I slowed down and kept watching. I knew the lights weren't from a plane because they were too low; no airport anywhere near. Without warning, the lights "zigzagged" - first left then right then left and were gone. Just like that - gone. I don't know of anything that can change direction like that. So, unless this can be explained as something else, I've seen a UFO.

14. I have.
Saw a formation of lights off in the distance, 4 under and 2 over, sort of in a hat configuration. This was at night. The lights were undulating in a slow stone skipping over water motion, but never changing position in relationship to one another (therefore giving the appearance of a solid object with lights), traveling north to south. At the same time a small plane was flying from south to north between these lights and us. The object seemed much, much further away than the small plane, moving about about twice the apparent speed of the plane and the apparent size of object was a little larger than the plane. So I would assume this was huge in size and moving very fast. We were walking the dog. I saw it first and said to my hubby "what the hell is THAT?" We watched it until it disappeared over the horizon. Heard no sound, except for the airplane. Still wondering today, about a dozen years later, "what the hell was THAT."

What is really weird about these unidentified objects is that so many of them are so completely different from each other, according to individual descriptions.

16. I never saw a UFO,
Although I hope to see one.

But I can tell you anyhoe,

I'd rather see than be one.

;-)

Sorry. Couldn't help myself. Think I'd much rather see a UFO than a purple cow.

Ma

P.S. Are UFOs a sign that there IS intelligent life in the universe?

20. i saw a spherical mirrored object about 30' in diameter,
about a 1/4 mile away, a about 800'. it was moving very slowly 90* to the wind and high clouds. it turned to a gold color, then copper, brown and disappeared , just blinked out. i saw one when i was 7, did a quick zig zag and took off too fast to describe, we lived in an isolated farm, the parents said the Sputnik was supposed to go over soon and sent us out to look for it, we went tearing back in really scared, we said we saw it and went to bed.
