4. It's good in a way though

Some of the more bizarre disagreements still let us question ourselves and all that. Even if they can be irritating at times. :D One of the things I like about DU is almost all motivations and walks of life will be questioned. As long as the root of the questioning isn't bigotry and is honest rational disagreement, then I'm all for it. I will smack down any threads that say "Shouldn't Intravenous De Milo offer his money to charity?" though. :P

6. I disagree.

Most of the comments I have read in there about people who have been fortunate financially are hateful.

As though those who are stuggling are morally superior.

It makes me sick. We live pretty modestly and give a TON back to the community, (hence my no good deeds go unpunished thread the other day :eyes:)

I don't think I should apologize for doing well. It didn't happen overnight. Unlike a lot of my neighbors and friends who live in enormous houses, neither of us received any inheritance, (in fact, we had to lay out $10,000 for my FIL's funeral)

So, given the long hours he's spent on the road and the long hours I put in while taking care of th three kids, I kind of resent that attitude.

Making an honest living is nothing to be ashamed of. My time in the Edwards house threads has proven people can draw an extremely harsh line at very arbitrary places.

Of course, it's unrelated, but even so, I'm sure a lot of folks wish they could take their words back.

Case in point: My brother, who was already extremely well off, lost his wife in 2004. They had life insurance, and a trust fund set up for the baby who was born 16 months earlier.

He told me one night he would give it all away, let me raise his daughter and be homeless if he could have his wife back.

Funny, the deals we make with God.
