The Shah of Santa Monica Boulevard
Last night I was driving down Santa Monica Boulevard towards the 405 when I had an "ERRP!" moment. "WTF? Is that the SHAH and Shahbanu of Iran looming over LA on a giant-ass billboard marking Norouz, the Iranian new year? Didn't they depose the guy over 25 years ago? Isn't he dead as a doornail? WHAT THE HELL?

It seems LA is the center of the American Iranian diaspora and it stands to reason that if you're a fan of the Shah you're not living in Iran, but still....?

...was with an Iranian business owner in the garment district here in LA (shopping one weekend). No shock, I suppose, given the Iran-Iraq war, but he was very pro-Shan, and thought we should nuke Iraq into the stone age. They're an interesting bunch.

2. "Like A Persian" was a satirical song based on Madonna's song
about the Persian scene in Los Angeles. Probably 20 years old, used to get airplay there.

Go to Shamshiri and get some good Persian food.
