When are the playoffs over and when is the @^&*$% Superbowl?
I thought this weekend STARTED the playoffs, but now I"ve realized that there's only two more Sundays (after tomorrow) left in January, and SuperBowl is always last Sunday, and they always take a week off between last game and SuperBowl, right? So that means that tomorrow is the last Sunday for playing. But aren't there four games this weekend, meaning there has to be one more set of games to find the final two?

What the hell is going on?

1. I think last year the super bowl was a week after the last playoff
I could be wrong, but seem to remember that cuz I thought it was unusual. I lose interest once the 49ers are out of it, but the Rams & Panthers game today was pretty amazing.

2. Feb 1
I think it's usually 2 weeks after the last playoff, for rest up and and marketing maximization.

3. A few weeks more
This weeks games are to decide who plays for the chance for the SuperBowl. So there is this week, then the winners play next week for a chance at the SuperBowl. Then they take a week off. Then the big game.

4. So as DS1 said, the SuperBowl isn't until February?
Has that ever happened before?

Seems like in 2002 it was a week later than usual becuase of the bombing, but I thought that the superbowl was set in stone as the last sunday of January. or is that just the way it happens mostly, so it seems set in stone?

13. No, I believed you totally
You are one of the DUers whom I trust implicitly, even if you are a Patriots fan. But then, I take little stock in sports, so except for Bears fans, who tend to be ignorant merde piles from that filthy, loser state of Illinois who can't control their anal sphincters or their accelerator foot or volume of their mouths when they're in WI, I don't really care who anyone roots for.

But I didn't doubt you for a minute when you said Feb. 1. I was surprised, but not doubtful.

12. Patriots are going UTTERLY down
they can't tolerate the cold, they can't tolerate the pressure, and, of course, they can't play football.

18. Huh?
Last night's game the temp was 3 degrees at kickoff, and it went down from there. They seemed to play just fine.

21. Okay, fine, just for the sake of argument let's say they can tolerate cold
But they still can't handle the pressure of a Packers juggernaut looming down on them, and they still can't play football.

22. It's truly miraculous....
The Pats have somehow been able to fool everyone into thinking that they've won the last 13 games, when in fact they can't play football:)

8. Super Bowl
GO PATRIOTS!!

And I can't wait for them to win the Super Bowl again and hear Rush cry about it like he did 2 years ago when the Pats beat St Louis. He probably lost a bundle of money on that, maybe a couple of years worth of Oxycontin...

20. February 1st here in Houston, Texas!
January 26th, the opening event at Reliant Arena "Super Bowl XXXVIII: A Houston Salute" will benefit the NFL Youth Education Town.

A bunch of Houston/Texas sports vets will be honored at the event. I'm not much of a jock but the names jog even MY memory--from the relatively recent days of Houston basketball glory (NBA & WBNA!) to the more distant past when the Oilers did not suck. And even a sports-dunce like me thinks the Astros traded Nolan Ryan too early--and to the Metroplex?

Anyway, it's a good cause, I guess. But--why will it include a SPECIAL salute to Ma & Pa Bush? Who finally bought a place in Houston after he lost the election; he'd used a hotel suite as his Texas address while he was living in government housing.

And WHY must the musical entertainment be: YANNI?
