What is the meaning of this song?
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Snow ((Hey Oh))

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E08VtCNj23E

Red Hot Chili Peppers

"Snow (hey Oh)"

Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on

When I sit alone come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe that we rely on

When I lay it on
Come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice

Hey oh listen what I say oh
I got your
Hey oh now listen what I say oh

When will I know that I really can't go
To the well once more time to decide on

When it's killing me
When will I really see
All that I need to look inside

Come to believe that I better not leave
Before I get my chance to ride

When it's killing me
What do I really need
All that I need to look inside

Hey oh listen what I say oh
Come back and
Hey oh look at what I say oh

The more I see the less I know
The more I like to let it go... hey oh... whoa whoa whoa

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow

Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there is nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
and it’s so white as snow

Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
and there is nowhere to go

Oh

< Lyrics found on http://www.metrolyrics.com >

When to descend to amend for a friend
All the channels that have broken down

Now you bring it up
I’m gonna ring it up
Just to hear you sing it out

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe what we rely on

When I lay it on
Come get to play it on
All my life to sacrifice

Hey oh listen what I say oh
I got your
Hey oh listen what I say oh

The more I see the less I know
The more I like to let it go... hey oh
woah woah woah

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow

Privately divided by a world so undecided
And there is nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it’s so white as snow

Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
and there is nowhere to go.

I said hey hey yeah... oh yeah,
Tell my love now
Hey yeah yeah oh yeah
tell my love now
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
privately divided by a world so undecided
And there is nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it’s so white as snow

Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed
and there is nowhere to go.

I said hey oh yeah... oh yeah,
Tell my love now
Hey yeah yeah oh yeah

I've heard it before but never paid attention to the words but I just
heard it again, on the radio and it struck me as having a 'deeper' meaning.

This was the phrase that got my attention:

"The more I see the less I know
The more I like to let it go... hey oh... whoa whoa whoa"

Any idea's?

1. Well, I'm Sure It Has Layers Of Meanings For The Writer
writers of lyrics usually have deeper meanings than what is on the surface...

poets at heart

the more I see the less i know

the more i like to let it go

maybe they all got clean and sober and are realizing how little they know in life and they need to let go?

2. That makes sense due to this line....
"Running through the field where all my tracks will be concealed and there is nowhere to go."

Thanks.
Don't mean to be obtuse but it seems to have a lot of messages within the lyrics, as you said. ;)

3. Yeah, That Is An Interesting One
and tracks will be concealed could mean many things

but I suspect what I've said...

7. My Friends...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H70hhJaFHu4

My friends are so depressed
I feel the question
Of your loneliness
Confide... `cause Ill be on your side
You know I will, you know I will

X girlfriend called me up
Alone and desperate
On the prison phone
They want... to give her 7 years
For being sad

Chorus :
I love all of you
Hurt by the cold
So hard and lonely too
When you dont know yourself

My friends are so distressed
And standing on
The brink of emptiness
No words... I know of to express
This emptiness

Chorus :
Imagine me taught by tragedy
Release is peace
I heard a little girl
And what she said
Was something beautiful
To give... your love
No matter what

8. Thanks...loading it now on DUN..... takes a while
"My friends are so distressed
And standing on
The brink of emptiness
No words... I know of to express
This emptiness"

That phrase above describes my friends... makes me so sad
that they're so depressed now, with politics and life.

17. I have a friend who
Edited on Sun Mar-18-07 06:47 PM by Breeze54
always says; "I'm not dead yet." and "I wish I was dead."

She's one of the smartest women I know.
I call her "Crazy Diamond", affectionately; after the Pink Floyd song.

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.....

I just wish she'd snap out of it. I'm out of idea's and I'm worried.

Not the original but it is the song.

5. Have you tried to decipher Especially in Michigan?
I can only assume that Michigan is a euphemism for sex that I'm too notwestcoast to get. Personally I think the RHCPs have snapped

6. I'm not that far in my education!
;)

I'll check that song out in a while! :)

You think they snapped?

They sound like a typical musical group to me, but.....
I married a musician, so it seems like the norm to me.

13. well here are the lyrics:
Life is my friend
Rake it up to take it in
Wrap me in your cinnamon
Especially in Michigan
...well I could be your friend

White clouds I'm in
A mitten full of fisherman
C'mon huckleberry finn
Show me how to make her grin
...well I'm in Michigan

Cry me a future
Where the revelations run amok
Ladies and gentlemen
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

A rainy Lithuanian
Who's dancing as an Indian
Painted in my tiger skin
(Especially in Michigan)

Double chins and bowling pins
Unholy presbyterians
Land is full of medicine
I find it when I'm slipping in
...into Michigan

The tainted new librarian
Who fainted when she tucked you in
Let's float away like zeppelins
(on stoic gusts of northern wind)

Out on the farm we'll be
Swimming with the mother duck
Deep in the mitten where
Lions and tigers come running
Just to steal your luck

Life is my friend
Underwater violins
Order now from ho chi min
A porcelain that comes in twins
...when I'm in Michigan

Throw me in the looney bin
Cause I can take it on the chin
The cleavage of your pillow skin
(Is moving like a violin

9. Well, I think
it has to do with struggling with drug addiction and how it feels to reemerge into life clean. Both Anthony Keidis and John Frusciante struggled with drug addiction, and it actually killed Hillel Slovak, the original guitarist (OD). Frusciante (who is amazing) left the band in the midst of his addiction (he nearly died at one point, I think). Their new songs (starting with californication), recorded with him, sound awesome and tight, I think in a big way due to JF now being clean. Keidis has struggled off and on again his whole life. He's been clean since 1999 or 2000 now, though, and I think it shows.

10. I didn't know all of the
musicians backgrounds. Thanks for filling it in.
Now it makes a lot more sense.

Not that I didn't understand the term 'snow'...but in my day
that meant 'coke'...not heroin. Maybe it did to others...
Just not in my field of friends.

I appreciate the history you added.

Thanks!

14. Oh, Keidis liked his snow
He was actually really big into speedballs (coke/heroin) in the late 80's. I think JFwas just into heroin, but Keidis has done enough drugs to kill us all.

12. Something about cocaine use...
Another song has the vocalist pining about not having a lover then going under a bridge and shoots up some classy heroin instead... :eyes:

They're talented, but they love their drugs... :(

"Under the Bridge".

Sometimes I feel
Like I dont have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angel
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
cause shes my companion
I walk through her hills
cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I dont ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way

Its hard to believe
That theres nobody out there
Its hard to believe
That Im all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I dont ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away

those lyrics are pretty heavy; as in: Having great power or force: a heavy punch.

I can relate.
