Help! I'm a prisoner in my own house!!
I need to go run several errands (bank, post office, dry cleaners) but my dog won't let me leave!!!

I took her for a pre-departure walk, came back, gathered my things, and went for the front door.

She was standing there, shaking, wouldn't let me get around her to get out the door. I mean, I could have forced the issue (I'm double her weight). But she just looked so pathetic. She doesn't like it when we leave, but jeez, it's not normally this bad.

What should I do?

1. If she can handle it...
Take her with you in your car, especially if you'll only be out of your car briefly for each errand.

4. That's what I was going to say.
My dog went to work, to the post office, convenience store, feed store and out for a short romp in the park this morning.

Happy dog! Happy Me!

6. Already tried the cookies
She didn't even look at them.

I feel like such a pushover!
I've always been so impatient about people who do silly things for their pets! Now look at me!
:D

3. Maybe she's ill?
Perhaps she's not feeling the best and it's the only way she can let you know?

5. Can you take her with you?
If you don't have to be in any place for very long, toss her in the car!

I know what you mean, though. The second I sit down, one of our cats is stuck to me like glue. He follows me EVERYWHERE and I think I should just invest in a front-strap baby carrier, he'd probably be very happy with that arrangement.

My cats are always much needier when it's cold out (even though they're toasty-warm inside).

8. Okay folks I'm going to take her with me
Don't know why I didn't think of that.
I guess I'm not too bright!
:dunce:

I don't normally take her places. Maybe she's tired of the inside of the house.

I'll check back in when I get back (Cuz I know you will all be waiting with baited breath!) :D

9. lol
I end up carrying my cat around the first hour I am home; he sticks to me too (after he is fed of course). :)

10. Put a bag over YOUR head and leave.
Well you can not look into her eyes that way.

11. Operation "Take her with me" a success!
We're back and both happy!

I'll have to remember to just take her when I'm running errands like that. After all, I only had to get out at the bank, the other two stops were drive-thrus.

Thanks to all of you for coming to aid me in my trauma!

:loveya:

12. You've found the answers
I take my Border Collie on my saturday morning rounds with me and she loves it. Especially the bark-up window at the bank. She knows she's going to get a treat and gets very excited.

When we can't take her, we give her a "going away beggin strip" she's come to understand this and is more excited about the begin strip than us leaving.

13. If she insists to go; take her- but put her in the trunk.
A couple of cold trips like that and staying home will look damned good to her.

15. BWAAAA- or beat her severely....
Then she will be happy when you leave!

Just kidding- love dogs, I have 8 in total. I think she needs a companion, I have just the dog for her!

16. The odd thing is, she HATES other animals!
That is, other animals that come in our house, or seem (in her mind) to be in our territory.
We live in a townhome complex and she's fine with meeting dogs and cats during walks, but when it comes to her home, look out!

We found her as a stray, and I wonder if she has security issues, that she feels threatened that another animal may displace her or something.

She's fine with people coming over and she LOVES kids. Nothing makes her happier than to have my niece and nephew visit. But when I tried to take in a stray kitten, my loveable Sarah attempted murder.

14. Yes, when my dog sees or hears me pick up the car keys
she is at the front door. And I cannot go without her. She knows that during the week when I am going to work, that she cannot go. But weekends are a different story. She watches my every move to make sure I don't go anywhere without her.
