*crying* The lead singer of the band Boston has killed himself
Man, I LOVED that band. "More than a Feeling" is one of the songs that got me through hard times at college when I was missing my guy.

ATKINSON, N.H. (AP) - Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston who killed himself last week, left behind a note in which he called himself "a lonely soul," according to police reports released Thursday.

The note was paper-clipped to the neck of Delp's shirt when police found his body at his Atkinson home, on the bathroom floor, his head on a pillow. He had sealed himself inside with two charcoal grills; toxicology tests showed he had committed suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning.

"Mr. Brad Delp. J'ai une ame solitaire. I am a lonely soul," the note read.

Delp joined Boston in the mid-1970s and sang two of its biggest hits, "More than a Feeling" and "Long Time." He was cremated Wednesday, after a private funeral earlier in the week.

14. Why?
I'm not allowed to have an opinion? I don't have anything against GreenPartyVoter are any member of the band. I just don't think they made very good music.

The OP made a comment that they liked Boston. I made the comment that I didn't think they were very good. Seems relevant to me.

Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. No one is telling you differently.

But you are going into a Boston fan's thread and telling them one of their favorite bands sucks right after the lead singer killed himself.

You have the right to do that if you really feel the need, but don't be surprised if you get a cold reception.

I'll show sympathy when it's worth showing.

"But you are going into a Boston fan's thread and telling them one of their favorite bands sucks right after the lead singer killed himself."

Uh, excuse me for not caring more. Is his life any more important than anyone else that dies a tragic death? Does this OP know this guy? If no, then it's just weird for you to think I shouldn't be able to mention that Boston was a sucky band. If yes, then I apologize.

If you disagree then fine. You're not going to change my mind.

"then it's just weird for you to think I shouldn't be able to mention that Boston was a sucky band."

Not in the slightest. I said, don't be surprised at the cold reception you are getting, since what you are doing is tactless, in poor taste, and your timing is awful.

You could've at least started another thread saying the same thing, and it probably would've gotten a better reception.

But, by all means, do what you want.

79. You could simply have said nothing at all.
Was it necessary to come into the thread just to shit on it? GPV is upset. She liked the band, she liked Brad Delp, and he died by suicide, which is always tragic. Don't like the band? I don't care. You just didn't have to say so at this time, in this thread.

As someone else said, tact. That's all.

They sold millions of records, and I thought they were one of the better bands from the 1970s. Not as good as Fleetwood Mac, but they were up there.

Have a little respect, OK?

RIP, Brad. I'm sorry you were so lonely. Ironic, isn't it? His music helped lonely people get through for decades, and nothing was there for him. Very sad.

31. How about the original poster who indicated twice that they were upset?
Obviously, they liked the group and were saddened by the loss of the lead singer.

The fact that you didn't like the group does not minimize the sadness of the situation. Try being a little supportive, the guy committed suicide because he was lonely. That's a pretty bad place to be.

You're getting upset over someone saying Boston was not a good band. Yes, it was sad that this guy killed himself. But, outside of one person that went to school with the guy, I don't see why I should feel such sympathy for some fan.

You don't find that a little weird?

60. Welll.. LOL What happened was
He had a huge amount of land in.. Illinois or Indiana?? He was going to go into the tin business so he would have had a fair amount of money of his own.

BUT....

His brother, the black sheep of the family, put the land up against some gambling debts. The whole mess got tied up in the courts until after 100 years passed, at which time the land was made into a state park. (Or so I heard from my dad.)

So we missed out on some money, but weirdly that gg uncle actually did the world a favor by allowing a new park to be made. LOL

45. You may not have liked them, but they were artistically very unique...
somebody can expand on this, but I heard once that their sound was one of a kind. Something about the electric guitars used; or the methodology in running the guitars through special amps, or something like that. Bottom line, they had a very unique, irreplaceable sound that has not since been replicated.

"I'm ready" is one of my faves.

72. It was a good band, but given the guy had a fiancee he was going to marry...
I don't believe he was a lonely soul. The one time I was in (what I thought was) a relationship, I did not feel lonely. And that's all I'm going to say about that for now...

Mentally ill, very probably. And that alone is tragic, don't anybody think I'm being heartless.

But a lonely soul? I don't buy that for one second. I can't, it makes no sense. If for no other reason, I base my beliefs on personal experience. I know 'being lonely' in ways most can't even begin to fathom.

80. Hypno, how can you say that?
It's entirely possible to be engaged, married, with a family, surrounded by loved ones, and still feel lonely. There is no way I will judge the depth of Brad Delp's depression or the depths of his loneliness or feelings of despair. He killed himself. Absolutely NONE of us can say that what he felt was not real.

I think the worst kind of loneliness is to be surrounded by people one loves and still be unable to escape one's inner prison.

person who died and all the loved ones left behind. My uncle killed himself and I can remember feeling sooo oangry at him. My brother on the other hand felt horribly guilty for years because he thought maybe he could have done something.

Just a disaster is what it is.

62. He left warning notes for the rescuers so they wouldn't be hurt
Can you imagine thinking clearly enough to care that the rescuers wouldn't be hurt by the carbon monoxide?? :(

65. RIP Brad. :-(
Boston. My best friend in high school turned me on to Boston in 1978. Their first album was the first one I ever bought myself. The melodies and harmonies they crafted often seemed more reminiscent of a symphony then a rock band.

RIP Brad.

75. I saw Jethro Tull at UMO, but it was like a couple of years ago. They do
get some good bands up there.

77. Love the band - but if I play the original album in the car - Speeding ticket guaranteed
Every time I play that album in the car, I just cruse and ever so gradually creep the speed up until I am caught.

When it was 8-track, I had to take that tape out of the car
When it was Cassette, I had to take that tape out of the car
Now I have to have the CD out of the car, can't play in the car. It is bad enough when it is played on the radio.

83. I enjoyed a lot of Boston's stuff.
I'm sorry about people who think they are important enough to make value judgements on music. Obviously millions of people loved his music, or it would not still be popular 30 years after the fact.

I'm sick of people who are so 'liberal' they think it's cool to shit on everything, just because they can.

That's why I haven't been on in a while.

Anyway... RIP Brad.
