BLOGS--How would I go about starting one?

I'm totally clueless about blogs and I don't know where to begin or what I need to know and to do. I've been thinking about starting a blog. I haven't done much writing for a long time, and I'd like to start a blog to get my writing out in a public domain. I think I'd really like to start a political blog. But I don't know the first thing about blogs. How do you start one? How do you get a place to put it online? Do you have to know html or other tools to do it? How do you get people (besides your friends) to read it? How often do you have to update it? Etc.

I'd appreciate anything folks can tell me. Thank you so much.

...There are many different places that you can do blogging. Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad to name a few. Your blog can be about anything you want, you can update it whenever you want; How to drive traffic there is the hardest part. You could put it in your sig line, start up a 'hey! Check out my blog' post. Knowing html is not necessary, but it can be helpful.

the "please remove" thread. You can do anything you want there. :)

Seriously though, I don't know a thing about it, but I just googled "start,blog", just those two words, no quotes, and got a ton of links.

I'd stay away from the 4th one down though. It was "how to start a blog in 51 easy steps".

Yow! That's a lot of freakin' steps!
