Anyone had a sleep study before?
I'm having one for apnea this weekend.

I'm kind of excited to get it done (and maybe start getting a decent night's sleep for once in my life) -- but I'm worried I won't be able to sleep with electrodes and lung bands and all the equipment.

So...I guess I'm looking for a little reassurance...

1. I did
Maybe six years ago but I don't imagine that they do it much differently. I had the same fear as you but I actually had no problem falling asleep and I didn't wake up at all until the tech woke me the next morning. It was actually BETTER sleep than I'd had at home in a very long time. I actually wondered if perhaps it wasn't my ex's snoring that made my sleep quality poor.

But anyway, the electrodes and stuff weren't that unbearable I thought.

2. Great!
I do have a private room and all, and the doc advised that I should eat dinner, maybe have a drink or two before I show up.

Maybe it'll be like a little mini-vacation!

3. I was involved in some sleep research several years ago.
Nothing to worry about. You'll have no problem sleeping. I hope they are paying you handsomely! We used to pay our 'subjects' $950 to participate.

4. Nope! I'm paying them (well, technically, my HMO is, I suppose)
I (and my doctor) think I have sleep apnea -- which is a rather debilitating condition.

I'm hoping to get it all fixed up.

7. Do people have trouble falling asleep when they're all hooked up?
I guess that's my main concern.

My doctor explained the procedure pretty well -- but I'm worried I won't be able to sleep at all with the electrodes and what not.

Do you ever induce sleep (sedatives or something) if someone's having trouble falling asleep?
