*(#&*&$(! Time Warner Cable Parental Control!!
Edited on Wed Mar-14-07 12:46 AM by huskerlaw
I was messing around with my DVR earlier and thought it would be funny...and sanity-saving...to lock Fox News, using the parental control feature.

So I created a pin number...and locked Fox News.

Imagine my surprise when a) it locked Fox AND everything with a TV-MA rating and b) it won't accept the pin!

So now I can't watch Dirt. Or, really, anything good. And of course, I'm stuck in a hellish hold world of hold with Time Warner tech support.

#!)@($U!)@!@!#(!@!!!!

ETA: Huh. It apparently never accepted my pin number. Note to the curious, the default pin is 0000. And it seems to work even after you've created your own pin. Whatever, I'm off to watch Dirt. ;)

1. My dear huskerlaw!
Well, that sucks!

I would think you could discriminate between programs!

I hope the folks in the tech dept. can help you, and quickly too!

2. Hahaha...well
Tech support never answered (of course), but I figured it out myself! Their factory created pin (0000) worked. So now I have all the channels, unfortunately including Fox.

3. If you plug the cable from the wall directly into your TV....
you will get normal cable until you get the problem fixed.

5. I used TWC's "Favorites" feature to collect all...
...my favorite channels into a single menu. That way, I don't have to bother wading through endless menus of ersatz news, Christofascist babble and unreality TV when I'm trying to find something to watch. It works pretty well, and takes me much less time to inevitably discover there's nothing on.

6. Great idea!
I don't channel surf very often anyway (ah, the joys of the DVR), but that would make life easier.

7. Thanks for the default PIN.
I've noticed that certain programs are blocked, and they weren't blocked by us, as we don't have kidlets.

I've been putting off calling tech support, so I'll try the default PIN. :hi:
