I have had trouble with my computer clock since the time change
It didn't change manually and every day, it sets itself back an hour.
Has anyone had this problem and how do you fix it?

3. XP.
It's a new computer, I shouldn't be having these problems.

7. Do you have the internet time server option disabled?
Double click the clock; it's the third tab, labeled "Internet Time". It syncs your clock with a time server. If it's on, try switching it off, or the other way around.

17. You've probably already done this, but...
go check at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and make sure you've got all the high-priority and recommended updates installed.

Then, try a little trick I've found with some Win2000 workstations - double-click the clock, then click the Time Zone tab. If the "automatically adjust clock" box is unchecked, check it and click Apply. If it's checked, uncheck it, click Apply, then check it again and click Apply again.

33. That's my suggestion
MS did send out a patch for the new time change and mine worked just fine.

In fact, I was a little surprised by it. I was anticipating setting them all manually.

chief of which there aren't enough of them to attract the attention of hackers and virus writers, etc. But I still don't like them.

Windows allows viruses in because of the way the OS is written. The Mac OS simply doesn't allow code to execute by itself. You don't have to like Macs...but it is funny to read a thread wherein so many people can't even get their fucking CLOCKS to work correctly!

All the Mac users still struggling to get their clocks to tell the correct time, chime in here...

*crickets*

Yeah. Macs suck.

37. I had issues setting my clock in Linux..
so the problem isn't unique to Windows.

The root of my problem was that I had my clock synced to the NTP servers and they all seem to roll my clock back to the old time. Unsyncing and manually setting the clock did the trick.

Here's a great Maddox rant about Mac zealots: http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=macs_cant

He can be funny, but he's also simply an asshole much of the time.

File it under "truth hurts."

You're correct, I'm not a programmer. If you can point me to the hacker who has been able to get into the Mac OS -- without being provided the back doors in the first place -- then please do. Face facts, Windows "people" are just as smug, nasty and condescending as Mac "people." Just for different reasons. You're defending your decision to keep using a POS OS, we're defending our decision not to have to constantly tweak our computers between "Service Packs" and trying to figure out how to get a goddam clock to function properly.

As for Maddox...he's at least an hour behind reality.

Seriesly...It's pretty funny how you Windows people get pissed off at Mac people for NOT having problems. Your like the Muslims who feel the need to cut themselves with swords and beat themselves to prove their worthiness. I'd prefer to just keep using my computer without all the bloodshed.

8. I guess you mean it didn't change -automatically-...?
You should be able to reset it -manually- and it should stay right. Is it "losing" an hour every day? If that's the case, something is terribly awry. :eyes:

Edited on Tue Mar-13-07 09:22 PM by LiberalFighter
Did you try doing "Apply Now"?

What is the date that the synchronization was last run? (It appears that it is only done once a week)

Are you using time.windows.com or time.nist.gov? I tried time.nist.gov and get error.
time.windows.com worked okay for me.

15. It didn't change manually?
Huh? So, when you MANUALLY went to your clock control panel (or whatever convoluted series of hoops you PC users must jump through) and set the hour ahead by one, it wouldn't do automatically change? I'm sorry, your message is pretty strange. "It didn't change manually every day." Well...if it had to do it itself every day, that wouldn't be MANUALLY, that would be automatically. If you have something set to "manually" do it every day, no wonder it isn't doing it AUTOMATICALLY, as you seem to be expecting. Unless I'm missing something.

Of course...you could get a Mac and not worry about such things. My computer syncs to the nuclear clock at Los Alamos. Automatically. (Is there a "needless snark" smiley? Sorry. Just in one of those moods).

41. Network Time Protocol clocks broadcast UTC
(which is basically GMT to everyday users), and that's what Apples use. So, no, it wasn't the nuclear clock at Los Alamos that enabled your computer to change the displayed time correctly - because the time it broadcasts doesn't change at all with Daylight Savings Time. It was probably the DST patch that Apple issued. Or your operating system version is less than a year old. You see, Apple has to issue manual patches too.

28. A lot of people are having this problem
People are having to look in manuals and help files to correct their clocks.

Where I work, there's a big digital clock in the lobby that's synchronized with a time server. And even it had problems.

It's another Bush problem. Since the Daylight Savings time shift, it leaves only the US and Canada with different times than the rest of the world for two weeks of the year.

And there are exceptions, even in Canada. Our province of Saskatchewan doesn't even use Daylight Savings time.

Here's an article from the British news org "The Register" on the problem:

Stop the US daylight saving madness!
