6. Holy Cow! Hope you got if fixed!!!
I'm in Maine, so I know how bloody cold it is for ya...

Is the furnace working yet? Happened to me one year, and the only way to save my house was to run water at full blast for two days so my pipes didn't freeze...

No fun at all...

Good luck!!!

9. Well, I was at school,
and when I came home, there were plumbers in the basement running a superhot thing to unthaw one of the pipes. But it worked.

10. -23 this morning
It warmed up to +3 at noon today and now it's below zero again.

My husband put a quilt over the hood of the car and I'm afriad for the pipes in the (unheated) cellar. My little furnace is running full tilt boogie.

Me, I have the crud and I've been in bed under an electric blamket all day. I feel like crap but at least I'm warm.

12. That's what I said!
My fiancee and I were talking about the game this morning (we live in Western MA), and we agreed that there's no way in hell we would go to that game tommorrow, even if we could. How bad is it at your place? It was -9 at my fiancee's parents' house, not counting wind chill.

Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 05:08 PM by RationalRose
I will have to commit him if he doesn't die of frostbite first.

It hasn't been this cold since 1968. This is like Midwest kind of cold.

17. We have no snow-only cold
the rain and warmer temps melted the snow from December (it was actually WARM for this time of year until the past week).

19. keep your pipes from freezing...
..by letting the water trickle all night. Just turn the tap on to a faint trickle in the bathroom and in the kitchen and also open up the cabinet doors under the sinks and leave them open all night.

If you have a hose outside, do NOT leave it hooked up to a faucet. Get it off now.

For your car, you can buy a block heater at an auto store that you keep plugged in during extreme weather. Run an orange extension cord from an outside outlet and keep your car engine startable with one of these.

We've been iced in all week out here in the Pacific Northwest. Agh!

21. It's so cold, my car didn't warm up fully during my commute
The drivers side door wouldn't seal right because the rubber is so stiff, there were ice crystals on the INSIDE of my windshield this morning, I had to walk ~backwards~ to and from the office

27. Oh boy! It's going to warm up to around freezing early next week
But just for a day or two until it plunges back down again. And, by the way, on the days that it does warm up they're expecting snow. Man, do I hate winter!
