and loonie sections in more expensive stores...and nothing beats the loonie shakes at Reid's dairy!

6. If I remember correctly
five-and-dimes was bought out by Woolworths, so the stores were called Woolies, but then Woolworths went under during the 70's and the whole concept disappeared until dollar stores appeared about five years ago.

I believe there's actually a chain that uses this name. Certainly, in many areas you can call a store that informally, and everybody knows which one you mean (and where it's located).
