A few years ago I applied to them for help. They couldn't help me. Others needed help more.

I admit I haven't been to their site for a couple of years. Last year a a DUer's generosity gave me the help I needed to go forward (no details forthcoming; don't ask). Although I believe I've paid forward that DUer's kindness, yet in honor of that DUer I'm making a donation to Modest Needs.

2. What a great idea for an organization.

There are many animal-aid societies, many AIDS- and other medical-research societies, many homeless-aid societies.

And we used to be able to rely on the federal government for dependable assistance for the ground-down poor.

This is the only org I've ever heard of that can give relief to regular folks in a real acute cash pinch. I don't even know how these guys dreamed it up.
