Guilty pleasure movie? And why?

What movie do you hide from your friends and loved ones the way you hid Playboy from your mother?

My all-timer would have to be "Point Break." Keanu Reeves, Patrick Swayze, and surf footage. Not three things you'll find much of in my DVD collection. Yet at least once a year since 1991, I have to pop this thing in and repeat all the bad dialogue, like a religious ritual. "Vaya Con Dios, Man!"

Also, I wholeheartedly admit that "The Bodyguard" is a bad movie, but God, do I love the scene when Costner gets all Steve McQueen with the big lug bodyguard in the kitchen! It was the only cool thing KC did in the Nineties, that one scene, and it's opposite that character I love from all the Coen Brothers movies (Frankie in Miller's Crossing).

It can be a whole film or just a scene or even a single line of dialogue. Proceed.

When everone's asleep and I'm half in the bag on a Friday or Saturday night, on it goes. Mindless entertainment. Also, Terminator 2.

9. Grease!

The music, the cast, the choreography, the story and RIZZO!!!!

When I was bedridden prior to surgery a few years back, I watched it 30 times.

15. Natural Born Killers

I'm the only one I know who has ever admitted to liking this movie. But then again, my tastes run to extreme satire. I also liked Clockwork Orange and Monty Python's Life of Brian which, to me, is far superior to the highly touted Holy Grail

16. Top Gun and Roadhouse

Top Gun, let's face it, everyone likes this flick if for no other reason it looks good.

Roadhouse, man, the fight scenes are 120% pure testosterone and look real goood. Sam Elliot is a total badass and it's bullshit that they killed him, he was too smart a cooler to let that happen

BTW, if people really want to cut down on the number of kids who smoke then they should ban the likes of Swayze from doing it onscreen because even though I'm through smoking cigs, he makes it look so cool you almost want a puff.

19. Top Gun...

I recall being completely sucked in by the look of this film, even though my Democratic sensibilities were reeling from the preposterousness of what Oliver Stone called the "Blow up the plane, start World War 3, get the girl" ending. Still, I sat thru it.

I can't explain why. I know it's horrible. But, i just have to watch it every time it's on.

I remember the first time we both confessed to having a compelling (and probably unhealthy) fascination with this train wreck, and I laughed for about 20 minutes straight when you confessed. It made me come out of hiding too.

We're supposed to be worldly, intelligent liberals, Prof. Where did we go wrong? :D

"Roadhouse" may be the low point of Sam Elliot's career, but he is cool just the same. As for Swayze, well, I'd rather watch "Roadhouse" than "Ghost". And hey, Ben Gazarra pretty much got to reprise his persona from this flick in "The Big Lebowski" - a seedy, unscrupulous type. Which is what I feel like when TNT shows "Roadhouse" on some random Saturday.

31. Zomby, I Just Don't Get It

Like i said in my first post, i can't explain it. The movie has a psychic hold on me, or something.

I mean, come on! The guy drives a monster truck through a car dealership and nobody stops him, nobody gets arrested. This is HORRIBLE stuff.

And yet, i can't take my eyes off of it.

Got addicted when I was young, and damn if I still don't love that movie. I don't hide it from friends though--I face the crap full-on so I can try to convert them. :)

32. Not A Guilty Pleasure, I Would Say

I like that movie too, but it's lighthearted enough that it's clearly not taking itself seriously.

That moves it out of the rubbish pile, so we shouldn't feel guilty about liking it.

To me, a guilty pleasure is liking something with little to redeem it. See my and Zomby's posts about Roadhouse. If you do, you'll understand my definition of guilty pleasure.

even though i've seen lots of times......It's about this high school student and she changes into a male (she changes her hairdo, clothes)in order to do a journalism project and she becomes best friends and eventually falls in love with this guy who has no idea that she's a female but eventually finds out during their school prom......Whenever this movie is on cable I always watch it, I dunno why but I do...........

Thug in alley holds gun on Geena Davis. She give him lip and he says "this is a real f'ing gun, lady!" Samuel L. Jackson appears from nowhere, pointing gun at thug, and says "This ain't no ham on rye, pal." Geena says to Sam, "What are you doing here?" Sam says, "Saving your ass. I would've been here sooner but I was thinking up that ham on rye line."

Also: "Chefs do that."

Also: Geena Davis: "Suck my dick."

The film's a guilty pleasure because I abhor gratuitous bloody violence in films. But Davis & Jackson are both terrific in it. And Geena.... <rowr> what a woman!

41. Oh, I hate to admit this...

Pretty much anything with the Governator in it. He's just such a freakin' cartoon. And I never get tired of hearing his crazy accent, especially when he's supposed to be playing some "All-American" type, like a fireman or CIA Agent.

It's, like, how long has he lived here??!

I'm particularly into the Terminator movies, despite their TERRIBLE plot inconsistencies!

44. Talking animal movies {not cartoons}

no matter how dumb or shitty if it has talking animals in it both my wife and myself will sit through it again and again.

Can't beat "Animal Farm" in this genre.
