Continuous Earthlink problems - anyone else?
I have continued to have problems with sending and receiving emails.

I also have come back to my computer and saw that my password link was present on my screen along with my password being input, when I hadn't been on my computer.

Anyone else had this happen?

6. Glad to hear it.
I didn't for a few years myself.

Now it seems to be a consistent weekly/monthly problem!

I hate Earthlink and will never do business with them ever if I can help it.

Problem is, Earthlink is getting wireless access business in major cities. Ughg.

5. I can't get into their news server.
Since 2/20. I finally got through to their customer support, which is in Rectumistan or somewhere and all I got was abject spologies. And cluelessness.

Earthlink ain't long for this world.

8. Bit of trouble myself tonight.
They're my provider (Embarq package deal) but not the e-mail. Had some trouble logging on a few times tonight. They will use your machine though if you don't log off and if not them someone else who might have gained access to your machine...........it's a free server just sitting around with it's hands in it's pockets after all.

Might be time to wipe and load if your machine is logging in "on it's own." "On it's own" is an unlikely behavior for an inanimate object. Give it a real challenge, let's see if it can "plug itself back in"

13. What's is a "wipe and load"?
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 02:04 AM by shance
A total reformatting?

Oh, and no one "should" have access to my machine. That is unless my golden retrievers are closet computer geeks.

16. Yes. XP will ask you after if you right click on the disk in question,
format this drive? If you have the CD for the OS and you're willing to start all over click yes. Old stuff goes away and you reload windows on a clean disk. I have one machine that I use just for the "internets" that gets this treatment as necessary. (about once a year depending on how bad a boy I've been)

Others often get access to our machines because we download the application ourselves, programs, applications, codecs, agreements in pop-ups, etc. We actually do it to ourselves with our gullibility and Windows wide open platform. Hackers are smart and inventive, it's their job.

9. Earthlink only option here for DSL, and they have the WORSE
customer service ever! Due to my many hours spent on the phone with their tech help, I have made many friends named Steve, and Scott and Mary in Bangalore, India!

11. I have been waiting for almost an hour now for the supervisor to take the call
who was supposed to pick up immediately.

This is the third time they have done this same hand off with no response, in the past couple of months.

Arghh........

14. Are you using DSL Earthlink?
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 02:35 AM by Breeze54
I can't get that, as Verizon has a corner on the market here.

I haven't had any problems with Earthlink in five years.

Occasional stuff has happened but it isn't the norm by any means.

Are you using their software? I won't use that!

It sucks but there is a way to turn off the automatic dial/logging!

There is a check box that you need to uncheck, it's buried in preferences.
It stops the constant redialing and auto-connecting.

Have you searched the help files or looked at preferences to reset your settings?

See if there is an outage from a storm here--> http://support.earthlink.net/support/

Network Status Report --> http://netstatus.earthlink.net/netstatus/netstatus.aspx

There are some network problems. Is there bad weather where you live or near it?
We're having high winds here. Maybe a wire is down near you??

17. It might have been your browser remembering your password
My Firefox 2 does that.
I've had earthlink unlimited dial up since 2000.
8 e mail addys and modest 10M web sites go with it.
They have been pretty reliable. Occasionally I have not been able to access E-Mail for periods of several hours.
I don't normally need tech support, though I did call them once for DNS numbers.
The Indian girl spoke excellent english with a pleasant voice, but insisted on taking me through the whole connectoid creation procedure instead of just giving me the dns.

Why don't I have broadband, you ask?
I'm too far from the central office for DSL.
And I simply won't deal with the thieves at the local cable company.
