sports fans: do you favor one League over another?
for exampLe: i pretty much don't Like hockey at aLL... however, i Love the state's high schooL hockey tournaments; i aLso Love the frozen four.

i'm aLmost identicaL with basketbaLL: i Like baskedtbaLL, but don't pay too much mind to the NBA. however, i Love the state's high schooL basketbaLL tournaments, and coLLege's march madness]/i].

with footbaLL, i Love them aLL, from pro, to coLLege, to high schooL at the Lowest rung. pop warner can fuck off.

basebaLL: LittLe League worLd series, and anything red sox - nothing more.

-------------------------------------------------

so what i'm getting at..... do you Like/Love a sport as a sport, or do you rank your Love of that sport based on what LeveL it's at?

26. College basketball over the NBA by far
the NBA has become a dunk slamfest.

I am not into baseball or American football, but I definitely prefer the NFL to college football.

I like NHL hockey.

(After march madness.)

I am a big Red Sox fan, but I prefer the NL rules. Makes for better gameplay, I think.

12. Yeah, I know how that is.
Plus, if we didn't have the DH, what about Papi? Sure, we call him a first-baseman, but...with a wink.

I LOVE college football, but rarely watch the NFL. I love college hockey and college hoops (men and women), but only occasionally watch the NHL, and NEVER watch the NBA.

edit: but all baseball sucks. ;)

19. I generally favor professional sports over college or minor league.
NHL is preferred but I will watch the Frozen Four and the Calder Cup (AHL) playoffs. I don't watch college football but I watch all the NFL games. I don't like basketball at all and I have an on again/off again relationship with MLB. Right now the Phillies look like they'll be pretty good this year so I'll pay attention.

23. NBA over college basketball, but college football over NFL
Edited on Tue Mar-06-07 12:52 AM by Awsi Dooger
I bet hundreds and hundreds of college basketball games but that doesn't prevent me from recognizing it as a remarkably overrated sport. The 3-point-shot in college basketball has done more to change and ruin the sport than any alteration in modern sports history.

Yet I doubt many fans even realize that. There's been so much hype by ESPN and Vitale and all the March Madness hysteria that the decline in the fundamentals of the sport has been completely overlooked. Grab some tapes prior to the rule change and it's incredible. I've had friends literally with their mouths open watching tapes from the early and mid '80s, when you still had players crashing the boards and lacked the prerequisite three bozos with their toes behind an arbitrary line. The safest sports prediction I ever made was the USA would ruin its standing in amateur basketball as soon as the colleges adopted the 3-point shot. My only mistake was it happened much sooner than I anticipated. The advantage was gone almost immediately once you embraced the weakling short 3-point lunacy. In the NBA the shot is much further out and not abused. NBA playoff basketball is indeed fantastic.

College football is simply the finest team sport on the planet. It's got regional significance completely unlike the NFL which scoops players from everywhere. Plus the pageantry and the varying styles of play. Nothing like hanging out on campus prior to a game with all the alumni activities and tailgating. I love the NFL but it's laughable when fans paint their face or wear team gear and want to pretend it has even a fraction of the passion and loyalty as similar allegiance to college teams. And college football will only improve now that the idiotic clock rules have been eliminated after one season.

Hockey is phenomenal in the playoffs but the regular season overtime rules are Mickey Mouse and overdone. There was nothing wrong with skating five additional minutes at full strength and then calling it a draw if no one scored.

Baseball doesn't exist to me. I'm so good at that now that I don't even know who is having a good or bad season until the playoffs begin and I happen to hear who is involved.

24. I'm getting like that about the Premier League
It's too predictable and too corporate. These days I prefer the Championship, where the standard of football is not as great but you've got everything from Colchester United (tiny club, awful ground but they have an excellent team) to the likes of Sunderland and of course the mighty Sheffield Wednesday!

There's more cameraderie, more games for me to see locally with 4 East Anglian teams, and it's a lot tighter and less predictable!

My brother is AFC. It's fodder for an annual superbowl bet. I've been eating crow on that one lately.

28. As for me,
football- NFL over college. My conference is the NFC. I might watch a college game or two if either I'm in the mood to watch or Penn State is playing. I enjoy watching football, but sometimes I get burned out.

baseball- MLB, especially the NL. I was raised on National League baseball. I enjoy watching the managers having to set strategy with the pitcher batting for himself. No designated hitter. This summer, I want to get to a couple of minor league games.

I was also raised on NFC football. My father was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan.

basketball and hockey- I have to also be in the mood to watch. I prefer my basketball and hockey live as opposed to on tv.

figure skating and gymnastics- I'll do live or tv for figure skating. Prefer Olympic caliber to Pro. I watch pro depending on who's skating. I've never seen a gymnastic meet live.

30. My love depends on how good the playing is.
I can't get into Serie A or Argentine soccer, but I love the Premiership and the Champions' leagues. I also like watching my kids play. :7

I'm trying to like MLS but I haven't seen too many games televised... I'm pretty sure I'll like it too, though.

31. College sports bother me, I like most pro sports.
I don't mind college sports, it's all the involvement of grown-ups in it that I hate. Grown alumni should leave their schools and never return. Grown announcers should stop worrying about a college playoff system. No one should ever criticize a nineteen year old wide receiver for dropping a pass. I feel like I'm listening to some old drunken child abuser half the time I hear someone talking about college sports. It's even worse here in Texas, because they take that same attitude down to the high school level. I'm personally in favor of the death penalty to anyone who pays a player in high school or the pros, or anyone who starts arguing for a college football playoff system.

Okay, maybe that's a little over the top. I just want to slap them really hard and scream "Grow up, you Michael Jackson freak!"

Oh yeah, and as for the often-hyped "enthusiasm of college fans:" that's all good, if it is college fans and not 30 year old alumni, but honestly, you can get the same enthusiasm out of drunk college students by announcing that final exams are cancelled or that someone just threw up in the fountain in front of the main building.
