Can anyone tell me why suddenly Mozilla won't work for me?

Can anyone tell me why suddenly Mozilla won't work for me?
We were without power most of last week, and it worked fine before that. Now suddenly, when I click on the Firefox browser it can't seem to connect. (We have a DSL connection). I have to use Internet Explorer to get on. I tried removing the mozilla firefox program and downloading it again and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. Any ideas?

1. I would try deleting your Firefox profile...

It doesn't get replaced when you re-install.. Note: that will delete you bookmarks, passwords, and other settings..

EDIT : I would actually move the profile to your desktop instead of deleting it. That way you might be able to re-build it and find what had become corrupt.
