Sword fight ensues after S.C. break-in

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- A man toting a 3-foot sword apparently met his match when he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment: The woman's roommate grabbed a sword of his own and sliced the intruder, police said.

The roommate, a sword collector, fended off the ex-boyfriend, who was cut on the arm, police said.

Elvis Javier Polanco, 18, was treated at a hospital and charged with burglary and aggravated assault, Beaufort County sheriff's Capt. Toby McSwain said. He said Polanco broke a window and climbed on his friend's shoulders to get into the apartment.

The roommate, Louis Delgado Hernandez, disarmed the intruder while the woman called police, McSwain said.

4. And here
I have to admit I'd love to see the look on someone's face if I opened the door with one of those babies in hand...almost did that to a noisy neighbor once. :P

7. That would have been a Kodak moment!
The first sword I got my husband was a Toledo Captain's sword. He used to take it out in the backyard (it was fenced in) and swing it around. Imagine what the neighbors were thinking if they happened to spot the long-haired Duncan McCloud of the clan McCloud looking guy out back swinging around a sword for exercise. I have decided there is a genetic memory for sword wielding, and I'm pretty sure it came from the beserking tribes. :P

9. Quite!
The guy upstairs was making noise at 3:15 in the morning, and I got tired of it and grabbed a broom and "followed" him around jabbing the broom handle at the ceiling. I was kinda hoping he'd either come downstairs to apologize, or come downstairs to tell me to f*ck off and stop telling him how to live his life. Either way, I had a katana (440 steel and sharper than the cats) in my hand waiting for the guy to show up once the noise stopped. He never showed up. Bitter disappointment. :P

10. Funny...
Excessive noise at 3 in the morning make me want to grab my sword, too. If people only knew.

5. Awesome.
I think there should be more swordfights; breaks up the monotony of gunplay.

8. Seen at a military antique shop in the French Quarter:
"Buy swords! There's no waiting period!"

12. Now there's a good sport!
The sword was the supreme military weapon for 5000 years.
It never runs out of ammunition.
At close quarters the only competitor is a folding spade.
