The top 25 crimes of the century
http://www.time.com/time/2007/crimes/

Lindbergh Kidnapping
Mona Lisa
Ape-Man
Fatty Arbuckle
The Black Dahlia
The Brinks Job
Lana Turner
The Great Train Robbery
Richard Speck
Tate Murders
Patty Hearst
Son of Sam
John Wayne Gacy
Ted Bundy
Art Heist
Jeffrey Dahmer
O.J. Simpson
Barings Bank
The Unabomber
JonBenet Ramsey
Versace Killings
Mary Kay Letourneau
Columbine
Andrea Yates
The Scream

O.J. probably posted lower because he wasn't convicted. I'm real surprised Watergate didn't make it, a crime that caused a president to resign. Also where's D.B. Cooper?

1. D.B. Cooper? Hell, where's Enron?
If a crime of omission or neglect qualifies, then the flooding in the wake of Katrina, what NOLA bloggers term "the Federal Flood", should be near the very top.

If an election had been that blatantly stoen in ANY other country, there would have been blood running in the gutters.

But US? We just sat here and let it happen.

7. Fatty Arbuckle was innocent...
and Virginia Rappe died of a burst appendix, not because she was raped with a beer bottle. He really shouldn't be on the list--this IS supposed to be "crimes" and not "scandals", right?-- the way he was destroyed for something he didn't do was criminal, but I don't think that's what they meant.

And what about Charles Whitman (the University of Texas sniper)? The assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK? The Soviet theft of nuclear secrets from the US?

8. Mary Kay Letourneau over Oswald, Whitman, 9-11, and the Anthrax Killer?
Not to mention the Tylenol murders, which are unsolved.

9. I forgot about the Tylenol tampering
Charles Whitman was a major one for sure. and let's not forget Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. The list just shows the typical American short term memory.

17. I guess crimes by the rich and powerful don't count
Otherwise, we'd see Watergate, Iran-Contra, BCCI, The Savings and Loan Scandal, JFK/RFK/MLK killings and Nixon's bombing of Cambodia.
