Check in here if you actually are liking American Idol
Ok, I know its a dangerous subject here on DU. But last night some of the women were so good, I just loved the show! I'm rooting for a couple of them to have a great singing career. I didn't call in or vote or anything, but I hope the lady who sang "My Funny Valentine" (the one who is a backup singer) does really well this season because she is something special.

1. All the blk. females are good, two are beyond good. But some of the guys

are also really good, just still developing. I think they have a better crop of singers in the finals this year.

And for the spoilsports?? Anyone who wastes their time makin' stale jokes about a restaurant named after an olive hardly have an edge on AI watchers. You know who you are, ya' wretches.

2. I've watched the last few episodes...
Which is something because I haven't watched the show since the year Clay Aiken was on it. I also think Melinda was great, and I hope she gets votes even though her style is a little more sophisticated for the show and she doesn't seem to fit in.

11. I have seen them. They are the same people who think
that since I am saddened by Anna Nicoles death, I must love GWB, also the same people who despise "Lost". Sometimes I think I must be a freak! I love things that "Liberals" are supposed to hate!!

14. It's ok...
I usually watch Keith at 7 but since he reruns at 11, I can catch him then and still have an hour or so of mindless entertainment with Idol. We can do both...care about politics and life & enjoy some entertainment. It's necessary for a healthy balance, imo.

I feel sorry for someone that can't relax their mind a little to enjoy a little bit of mindless entertainment. It doesn't have to be Idol...I just enjoy talent contests and music. I don't make apologies for that and no one should.

18. So true....
I don't vote...but after tonight and seeing the wrong one voted off, I might start. I hate to see the good ones voted off and obviously the bad ones have some kind of pr club out there making sure they get the votes.

19. And the numbers are free. I have never voted until the last 2 standing.
That is when, to me, it really counts, but seeing that Nick Pedro, and AJ go home before others, maybe I should reconsider.

17. I'm watching it
:scared:

Love it or hate it, it is entertaining -- for me, anyway. I like the big curly haired dude, Chris Sligh, and LaKisha is my favorite female vocalist.

21. I watch American Idol, too.
I'm an unrepentant pop music fan, who likes bands and singers that about 99% of DU seems to hate (if you have a strong stomach, ask me about my favorite artists ;) ).

Anyway, regarding Idol, LaKisha and Melinda just absolutely blow me away. This might sound corny, but I wish both of them could win the American Idol title this year, that's how much I like them.

Antonella's a local girl, so part of me would like to see her go far, even though she's been terrible the past 2 weeks.

I liked Leslie too, but was disappointed to see her leave this early (anyone noticed her zinger at the end of the show: "America doesn't like jazz?" I like jazz, Leslie, and I voted for you.)

Guy-wise, I like Chris S. and Chris R., though that "Geek in the Pink" song was an awful song to perform on Idol.

31. Hi njdemocrat106 - maybe I'll PM you asking which artists
you like. I also enjoy pop music - especially the pop/rock side and indie-pop. I always say, there is no right and wrong in music taste. Some artists might be profound, but that doesn't indicate a connection with the listener. Joanna Newsom doesn't impress me.

As far as American Idol goes, I think the male singers this season aren't as strong as last season. I like Sundance Head and Blake Lewis the most. There is a poster on a message board I host that has a friend who knows Blake. This poster is an artist herself and from Washington State. I also think Chris Sligh and Brandon Rogers have talent. Though Brandon picked the wrong song this week. I never thought of "Time After Time" as a song you think through so that you try to feel it. I don't see any appeal in Chris Richardson. To me, he's a Timberlake wannabe, and I'm not a Timberlake fan either. I think Sanjaya, when he picks a good song, is better than A.J. Tabaldo.

The female singers are quite strong this year. I love LaKisha Jones and Melinda Doolittle, but right now, I'd give LaKisha a slight edge. I think I'm the only one who found Melinda great in style, but a little pitchy on the high notes this week. I gave Alaina a vote for picking "Not Ready To Make Nice," and even though she's not even close to Natalie Maines, I was sad to see her voted off. Jordan Sparks has a nice ballad voice. I don't think Antonella has much talent at all, but she might get enough voters on her side with her looks to stay a while before being voted off in a few weeks.
