Woo! I delivered a 400+hp Mustang through a foot of snow!
The new owner was too afraid of driving it on anything less than perfectly dry pavement, that I (very reluctantly) agreed to deliver it to his home.

Man, I swear I saw the rear-end pass me twice at least!

3. Lousy handling but good power...
...the whole "rocket on a roller skate" thing. Congrats for making it without losing it...those cars can be fun to drive on dry, straight roads, but nightmarish in the snow/wet.

5. Was it a Saleen, antique or homemade? 400's alot of ponys
What do you think of the 2005 mustang? Ford needs a hit and this might get it. I think it will offer 300hp standard in the GT and 200hp in the sixbanger.

6. They need to put a decent suspension on those cars...
My little '83 911 only has 180hp, but it'll out-handle almost anything on the road...makes a big difference if you're not always on straights. I DO like how they've gone kinda retro on the styling (pseudo 500-GT) though.

7. I'm thinking about one--a GT. I'd like to put a...
Supercharger on it, and see how that goes. It really is a good design, but I'll probably wait until the 2006 model year. I think the first attempt at an aluminium block is something I'd rather let other people deal with, until the real world forces some of the design flaws to the surface.

There's already talk of a new very limited Shelby GT 500 based on the new Mustang.. Shelby is slated to formally retire, and he's always said he wants his last professional car to be a Ford, since that's where he started.

10. Yep, it's done...
..and already gone.

I didn't take any pics, because it's completely bone-stock looking. It's a 90 LX hatchback in Ford Titanium Silver. Stock everything on the outside. It doesn't even have Pony rims, just the old 'phone dials'. The only hint that there's something under the hood is the relocated cold-air intake under the front spoiler, some extra instrumentation in the centre console (boost, oil temp, oil press., coolant temp), some barely-detectable subframe connectors under the floor, and the tips of the 2.75" dual exhaust sticking out the back. Oh, and the owner replaced the "5.0" fender badges with "5.8" ones...showoff. It's got stock height coils, but they're the ones from the police edition Mustang, so they have a firmer ride. It looks like your mom's Mustang.

351W with polished/ported Edelbrock performer heads and intake, TRW/ARP insides, custom cam, 80mm TB, high-output injectors and fuel pump, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Vortech S-Trim supercharger, plus all the usual bolt-ons.

If you're following this saga, you know it was almost ready two months ago. I found out, after starting the original new engine, that the oil pump was faulty, destroying the rotating assembly...

I'll take some pics this summer at the track, providing the new owner doesn't slide it into a pole between now and then.

11. You can keep the body..I'll take the engine and suspension
Edited on Fri Jan-09-04 02:26 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
sounds like a bad ass ride..not my favorite body though

On edit...I do have a fantasy of exchanging the (no laughs please) hood of my car) with a real intake on the hood( a friend who has an exhaust shop can swith it out with a fiberglass one)and then switching out the exhaust as well..I could do it all for about $500 bucks

12. You know...
Now that they're not as commonplace, I kind of like them, from an aesthetic point of view. Everything made in the last 15 years is so blobby and curvey, it's refreshing to see such an angular and severe design. It's kind of like the TR7/8--it gets more distinctive with time.

I don't really like driving them, though, particularly the hatchbacks. Terrible blind spots, and lots of squeaks and rattles. You can even hear the fuel pump running in the hatchbacks. I love the seats, thoug. The optional lumbar seats are perfect for my frame.

14. Yeah actually the entire cage had a lot more room then
It holds you in like a Z now. I do love the TR7/8's too...that little wedgy looking thing...I guess the body wasn't that bad and it was sure better than many of the 80's models with their Bill Blass half vinyl top crap.

That's the great thing about mine..no blind spots..it's a convertible :D..now the shit that flies in my eyes on an LA freeway if I don't have my glasses on is another story.

For favorite body though..I'll take the early 70's Mach I's any day.

16. I'm a purist...
I'll have Steve McQueen's 1968 GT Fastback. Debadged and with Torque-Flight wheels, of course.

13. Yours is red, isn't it?
I'd splurge and get a complete body respray if you change hoods. Red never matches well.

Be careful if it's a fibreglass hood--some ot the offshore ones are crap. Some brands even incorporate paper and/or particleboard.

Spend on the exhaust first. Throw in a set of ceramic coated shorty headers and an offroad H-pipe, if you haven't already. You'll be amazed how much your stock exhaust restricts your low-end torque.

I'm going to stop now, because we're probably being monitored and traced by the bicycle-and-public-transit-only DUers!

15. LOL
No it's white,,thanks on the advice..I was looking at the glass pipes first..and besides...of the two projects, the exhaust is the cheaper one. :D

For everyday driving I have a 525 that gets 26 to the gallon so they can't get too awful mad at me...at least it's not a Hummer and I have to transport clients now and then

9. My old 60-something VW used to do that
I never needed to shovel out. I lived up a hill and would pass everyone else slipping and sliding. A VW with snow tires is incredible. When I bought a '76 Datsun hatchback I had to keep two cinderblocks in the back to weigh it down.

Too bad the VW's heating/defrosting system was deplorable.

17. Hey, want a project car?
I happen to know someone here on DU that is selling a 1986 GT 5.0. Black, bone stock, 44,000 original miles. I was going to buy it, but my real car needs some work, so my money is not as freed up as it should be.

(Hint, hint!)

18. Hee hee...right deal, wrong country!
Importing a car from the US is moider! There are plenty of good Stangs here in Canada. Besides, my next project isn't a Mustang...it's something...way cooler.

Dang, though, 44K miles. That's low! Carburated, too!
