Why do Republicans think Bush was chosen by God?
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 10:47 PM by Lostmessage
I have a next door neighbor who keeps arguing me that Bush was chosen by God to be president and I keep asking her what God? She keeps saying God and we keep going in circles.

I can't stand living by this crazy woman but my lease is not up until may and I am not going to move. She has a flag on her door and she wears flag apparel :puke:.

I am so sick of this right wing nut job and I don't have a come back for her when she says that Bush was selected by God. All I can think of to say to her is which God a Deity God. :grr:

1. Because they're low brows....
and they don't really have RATIONAL THOUGHT.
Its peculiar...democrats NEVER had to state that Bill Clinton had
been "chosen" by god...ever. Interesting, no?

3. Just tell her...
...Dubya wasn't chosen by Gawd, he was chosen by the Supreme Court.

Of course, when I said this to the religious-wrong nut job, it didn't go over to well, but it did shut them up for about two minutes. It was worth it...all that silence! ;-)

13. She keeps telling me
That she will pray for my soul because I have a Gore sign on my door from the stolen election. She told me me that I was going to hell when I die and I said that there wouldn't be anymore room because it would be too filled with Rush listeners by the time that I died.

8. why?
because, as everyone knows, God speaks through the media. Everything you need to know is on one of the major networks. Do not question. It is easier to simply aquiesce.

God is good. god is love.
Now tell me again why I'm supposed to go kill other people for god?

11. Becuase they think we are God's chosen nation
and all presidents are chosen by God.

So for them, Clinton was chosen by God, but to punish us for our sins.

Shrub was chosen by God, because he's a godly, forthright man, and God felt that america had learned her lesson so gave us a *good, Christian* leader this time.

Pfagh.

I think they have it completely opposite.

I also believe that god does not interfere in the affairs of people very often; certainly not in the choice of leaders of countries.

Nor does God interfere in the outcome of sports games, even if Favre's father had just died and there was a near-miraculous win by AZ to get the Packers in the play-offs. I also abhor that kind of abuse of God. My hometown newspaper actually headlined the paper with "DIVINE INTERVENTION". Cripes.

21. These folks have a really simple-minded God
They created Him in their own image.

The rest of us have a more complex and intriguing Diety. He/She/It asks that we think, and not just believe. After all, we humans were given enormous brains, and not to use them would be blasphemy.

We were discussing the mention of graven images in TS Eliot's "The Hollow Men" and I brought up Pat Robertson's comments.

I think they devil is talking to the personally. I mean why else would they violate the 1st commandment?

and what is she going to think of God when he deselects Bush this year? Was God not omnipotent to see what a failure his choice would turn out to be? Ask her why God chose Saddam?
Seriously, you are not going to convince her there is no God. But ask her why God gave us free will if he was going to chose our leaders for us. Tell her you have a Christian associate (me)who says God is not that petty.

its a justification for the theft of the election, plus they're buying into all this "Great Leader" bullshit the corporate media began spewing after 9/11 so they think isn't it lucky Gawd-uh (acting through the Supreme Court) overturned the election & appointed Jr. to be president.

40. It's a nice short word
Most of Bush's supporters can't manage long things like "conspiracy",
"corporations" or "Supreme Court".

"God" however is a conveniently short and easily remembered word that
can be put to any number of different uses. Best of all, anyone who
dares to question it is signing their own warrant as an unbeliever, a
godless sinner and a heretic awaiting the purifying fires of Hell.

(Bring your own marshmallows :-) )
