Someone just sent me this video. There is a grey hound race track
not far from me. I would never step foot into it. This video is sad but beautiful.

2. If it is sad, I don't want to see it.
I knew people who were greyhound owners and handlers and those dogs are treated awful. And my son worked at a greyhound racetrack in Miami. He was one of the guys who brought the dogs out and then chased them down after the race.

3. They are such beautiful spirits.
I've had two of them in my life. The first was long ago when I was a kid. The other was a rescued female who passed two years ago. She was seized from a deplorable situation in Houston. Her favorite thing in the world was a nap in a soft, warm place. Her second favorite thing in the world was chasing squirrels. I would adopt another one, but it's difficult in NYC to find a landlord who accepts large dogs. I would certainly recommend Greyhound adoption to others.

4. Can't watch it
I have two adopted greys. One, when we got him, still had the sand from the track on his coat. We took him to my mom's house because she had a great place to wash him. After his bath, we let him out in her (now our) backyard. As we watched, he carefully walked over to the flowers - probably the first he had ever seen - and very carefully sniffed them. When I explained to my mom why he was acting that way, she cried. He is now 10 and a half and doing very well. He still runs after birds and squirrels and, as alpha dog, keeps the others in line. Our greyhound bitch has several permanent bald patches on her hindquarters - probably from electric cattle prods that were used to try and get her to start from the box. Now she is just a big love sponge whose favorite occupation is to sleep on our bed, our couch or any other soft place, preferably snuggling with a human who will pet her or our youngest whippet whom she mothered when he was a young puppy.

5. They use electric cattle prods to get them to move? Isn't that animal abuse?
And thank you for being so kind to our fur friends.
