I actually found a REAL pink shirt yesterday. Everyone sells Mauve or Magenta. I like the magenta too, but I needed a REAL PINK shirt. And I didn't pay through the nose for it. I probably should go back and get like three more of them...Hmmm.
What do you have trouble finding that you really like, but not one sells exactly what you want, color, style, etc?

finding shoes, belts or wallets that I like and wont fall apart in 20 months that don't cost $200 since I became a vegetarian.

4. Eh...
belts are less hard to find. they just tend to be ultra-businessey or have metal punk-rawk studs coming out of them. I can wear those to work at *$$, but neither is appropriate for the field I'm trying to get into. Very laid-back ultra-liberal youth-oriented NPOs, specifically doing development.

31. check out jcrew.com for belts...
they have a lot of the ribbon/cloth kind, many varieties, and they usually last quite a while. Should be able to find some with the kind of vibe you're looking for...

16. Bass had some great, classic
Audrey Hepburnesque pumps with a kitten heel. They were gorgeous and of course they no longer sell them. Pffft. So I agree with Crisco. Nice, classic pumps.

Oh! And jeans that are not acid or pre-washed looking, which just looks sloppy to me.

6. Hell, I have trouble finding decent socks anymore.
Socks for women, I'm talking about. Whatever happened to sturdy knee socks and decent crew socks with heavy tops? Everything now is lightweight; fancy trouser socks, ankle socks or low-cut socks.

I used to be able to buy them at Sears in 6-packs in bags, or threesomes on hooks. I'm talking all-white, or assorted colors. Now, if I find any at all, it's singly in catalogs at higher prices, and they're still not heavy topped crews. I like a good heavy sock that will keep my feet, and especially my ankles, warm on cold days/nights, with enough elastic in it to keep the tops up.

Is there a yarn shortage? Or is it all about sleek now? Or is it the pernicious influence of Wal-Mart?

I dunno.

15. Oh! I'm not alone!
I look for knee socks all the time; I wear AFO's. (Ankle-foot orthotics; in other words, braces). I need knee socks that are a bit thicker than nylon, but I can't find them in department stores. And if you knew me, you'd understand how much it just KILLS me to have to spend $30.00 on knee socks from a specialty store.

19. I agree on socks. They are becoming harder and harder to find, and they are really expensive!
I did get a six-pack of cotton crews in assorted colors at Penney's for $9.99. They are OK, but they have too many white pairs mixed in. I would like just colors.

11. Actual summer pants.
I'll be working in a law firm this summer with a business dress code. I looked at suits and "career separates" online -- what's up with all the crop pants and capris and chinos, for the love of god, SHORTS?!

I'm 5'2", and non-standard-length pants never fall where they should (even petite sizes don't work). And I can't imagine anyone taking me seriously if I show up wearing a pinstriped jacket and matching shorts.

I think it'll be skirts for me this summer.

Most average to large cities have them. Yes; it's a mall store of the Limited line; but they always carry suit separates in lightweight fabric in black and I believe gray. Seasonally they have other colors.
Consistency; believe it or not.

Banana Republic has several different fits, and they last quite well. JCrew also has some sturdier pants for work... and BR, especially, often has some very very good sales.

So I stick to ordering my clothes off the internet. I hate going into a store not being able to find anything that I liked. I used to go to Old Navy and spend at least $250 on clothes at one time - now , I go in there and I don't see anything that I like anymore.

20. It's impossible
I order almost all my clothes from catalogues now. I try, I really try, to shop locally and keep my money in the local economy. But I'm not built like the cast of Friends and that's all that's out there practically. Even if I were, at age 47 I don't think I should be wearing low rise pants and clingy midriff tops. But it's a choice between that and old lady clothes made from synthetic fabrics. Ick.

24. Yes...
God forbid that a curvy female be able to wear nice clothes. I love going into Lane Bryant, but everything is SOOOOO expensive. $50 for a PAIR of jean....pfffft. I'm a broke college student. I can't afford that.

I could get jeans at Wal-mart, but the clothes that I buy from there never last more than a few washes...:banghead: So I live in t-shirts and 2 pairs of jeans that I got on sale from Lane Bryant. Can't wait until I start working, then I can really go shopping. :)

30. I still have some problems
finding stuff that I feel comfortable with wearing. A lot of what they carry now is career-wear. I don't need that...yet. Plus, I'm not to keen on the idea of wearing a shirt made of some silky material when I have a 3 year old boy to contend with.

Thankfully, once I start working, I'll be wearing scrubs predominantly....I can't wait for that. Only about a year left.

38. They have a good sale section in the back where you can get stuff...
...usually cheap. Yesterday when I was there, they had $7, $20, $30 sections. Really nice section. And For jeans, if you can find an Old navy, they're jeans are great and in the 20-30 dollar range. They have a chubby girl section now. I love it, except some of their shirts are 70s fat girl shirts and I'm looking for plain t shirts most of the time. I did find some good stuff at Lane Bryant yesterday for 13. Anyway, I hope that helped.

34. Not really
But I'm an addicted shopper. :)

If I'm out looking for something specific, like a dress shirt, suit, tie, jeans, shoes, whatever... Then I have certain stores and designers I frequent. For dress shirts, if I'm looking for RTW, usually Thomas Pink and for my custom-made shirts, I go to Seize sur Vingt in New York. If shopping for jeans, if i'm looking for something comfortable and sporty, I go to Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister. For more casual and dressy jeans, and also for jeans that will make your rear look great, I will go to Dolce & Gabbana or Emporio Armani.

Shopping off-the-rack at cheaper stores always are hit and miss with me. Usually I go to malls and stores to browse and see what's new, but sometimes I will spot something and be like "I must have it!" If you're looking for something specific and of greater quality, I'd recommend trying a better label for it. You'll probably get better results and look fantastic.

They're all in wild colors and strange styles - I just want a basic tank type swimsuit in basic black or green or something. I hate buying them out of catalogs because it's the type of thing I like to try on. I've seen a few things that caught my eye but they cost 60 or 70 bucks. That's ridiculous.

43. jeans
i'm a bigger girl and i would give my kingdom for a pair of jeans that fit. i can't shop in the juniors section because apparently there are no chubby juniors. if i do happen to find a pair in my size, they are ultra low rise and i look like a plumber when i squat.

but i can't shop in women's either because most of those jeans have what i call 'the mommy pouch'. i know your body changes when you have a baby, but i haven't had a baby and i don't need extra room in the front of my jeans. my extra weight is in my butt and thighs, so that's where i need the room.

and don't even get me started on shirts...i just want something that falls past the waist of my pants and isn't repulsive to look at.

I HATE low-rise & refuse to wear them. After 2 kids, my belly is not my best feature, & I find "muffin top" icky. I buy jeans off of eBay. Levis, relaxed, 29 x 32, 10" rise. I long for the day low-rise pants go the way of rainbow eyeshadow! They don't look good on anyone except very thin people, why have they stuck around so long??!!

...if I could find clothes I like.

What are retailers thinking, anyway? Racks and racks of clothes on deep discount, clearance, closeout -- that can't be as profitable as strategy as if they actually made and carried some designs that people actually desire!!

And I see so many UGLY clothes. UGLY. Ugly prints, ugly colors, ugly frills and features.

Perhaps if I could still afford to shop at Nordstrom I'd find something. All I want is good fabric, skilled workmanship, and tasteful design. Feh.

I'm taller than I am wide and these days, jeans of dimensions NUMBER x LARGER NUMBER seem to be in short supply. Most of the stuff I can find are either too short, too wide around the waist, or both. I usually end up ordering my jeans from Lands End, since they still seem to fit the size and style I like very well.
