based on my observation of the lounge tonight, I'd like to share a little advice

People are assholes.

Not all people, but enough people that you have to plan around them. Unfortunately this is probably more true on DU than in most of the real world, thanks to the wonder of internet anonymity. And trolls to some extent, but mostly people who share our ideology but just have no social skills. So if a few show up on your thread, ignore them, but as a defensive measure try to plan your threads in such a way that they can't turn the discussion to you and how much they think you suck without dragging the thread off topic and looking like complete shitheads.

If you started a thread asking people what they thought of you tonight, and a few people were perhaps a bit more candid than is socially acceptable, remember that their problem is a hell of a lot bigger than what they think of you, and when you close out your browser and go back to your real life, they still have to put up with themselves. Pity them. And for fuck's sake, never make the mistake of letting others think that you give a shit about their opinion of you. Especially if you do.

This isn't directed to anybody in particular, unfortunately there are quite a few examples of what I'm talking about floating around here right now.

These are all very different sub-cultures, each with its own mores and rules. Something that's status quo in GD may not be acceptable in the Lounge, or IRL.

I'm not being snarky. Many of us really were taught that at an early age, me included. "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all" is quite the mantra.

I had a little snark in mine also
Pervert and ass hole beat out nice guy but thats ok.
I came to the conclusion several months back that the people here can be like Sharks sometimes.
If they see that you are wounded they go straight for the kill.
I just refuse to let it annoy me.
I know I am a nice guy and a good person and honestly care about people.
And if anyone is to blinded or if they judge me through a few flirty post as a pervert or an asshole.
Then they don't know me.
