5. Thank you very much. I just burst out laughing in my cube at work.
That last line is the kicker: "So thanks, Jesus. Thanks a bunch. You were really there for me when things got tough. Asshole."

10. An NBA player who said he hates gays
Many here were very angry with him. What he said was wrong but hate is hate whether it's about gays or about someone's choice regarding religion.

12. I remember that now. I just forgot his name.
I would say that bigotry is bigotry. Hate is a normal human emotion. It is only disfunctional when it becomes obsessive as it seems to be the case with that ball player. Judging any invidual by the (often false or at least exageratted) characteristics of the group is bigotry. By the way, that is good or bad characteristics. It is just as prejudiced to say Jews make good doctors as it is to say they are cheap. Hating someone because of his or her religion may be bigoted, especially if it is really a substitute for a tribal designation. Being critical of the religion itself is not the same thing. Religions make specific claims and encourage and even require certain thoughts and beliefs. Being critical of religious choices is no different and deserves no more respectful deference than being critical of ones choice of political party. Religion matters in this world and I'm not going to hedge myself in because someone else's religious sensibilities are offended.

13. The question then would be.......
What's being critical and what's being hateful.

14. Don't know.
I suppose criticism is based on facts as opposed to xenophobia or gut reaction. I can't say I hate religion. Subjectively, I just don't feel that strongly about it. Still, there are many, many things about religion generally and about specific religions that are worthy of hate. I'm not going to pretend that is not the case because the social convention seems to be that it is rude to question anyones religious faith.

15. I understand what you're saying
There are also things that people have done with religion that I also hate.

For me, I wouldn't express such deep animous regarding religion in the same way that I wouldn't express opinions in the way Tim Hardaway did. In my opinion there is no difference.

16. I forgot to add that there is no god :o)
no magic no life after death we are all just meat.
you can believe what you wish and i respect it.
I just have a hard time believing that some mythical creature created life.
But believe as you wish.
I don't hate you for it.
Just don't hate me for not believing in fairy tales and magic.

17. I like this one, given to me by a Catholic priest colleague...
Butt prints in the Sand

Butt prints in the Sand
A parody of Footprints in the Sand

One night, I had a wondrous dream;
One set of footprints there was seen.
The footprints of my precious Lord,
But mine were not along the shore.
But then some stranger prints appeared,
And I asked the Lord, "What have we here?"
"Those prints are large and round and neat,
But, Lord, they are too big for feet."
"My child," He said in somber tones.
"For miles I carried you alone.
I challenged you to walk in faith,
But you refused and made me wait.
You disobeyed, you would not grow,
The walk of-faith you would not know.
So I got tired and fed up,
And there I dropped you on your butt,
Because in life, there comes a time,
When one must fight, and one must climb,
When one must rise and take a stand,
Or leave their butt prints in the sand."
