I am in MI
to surprise my SO and she is sick and in bed...:-( so my duties as the good BF that drove from MN to MI to surprise her went form wild weekend of "missed you" to caring for her as she is sick.

oh well, at least I get to snuggle with her. She is asleep on my shoulder right now. I would take this over being in MN anyday, but now I don't want to go back.

4. No, I don't know Micheal Moore. I've never been to Flint, but I have a deep
appreciation for what happened there in the early part of
the union movement:

Organizing Flint was a difficult and dangerous plan. GM controlled city politics in Flint and kept a close eye on outsiders. As Wyndham Mortimer, the UAW officer put in charge of the organizing campaign in Flint, recalled, when he visited Flint in 1936 he received a telephone call within a few minutes of checking into his hotel from an anonymous caller telling him to get back where he came from if he didn't "want to be carried out in a wooden box."

GM also maintained an extensive network of spies throughout its plants. Mortimer concluded after talking to Flint autoworkers that the existing locals, which had only 122 members out of 45,000 autoworkers in Flint, were riddled with spies. Accordingly, he decided that the only safe way to organize Flint was simply to bypass those locals. Mortimer, Eric Branoff, Roy Reuther, Henry Kraus and Ralph Dale began meeting with Flint autoworkers in their homes, keeping the names of new members a closely guarded secret from others in Flint and in UAW headquarters.

but Whirlpool is trying their damndest to rid the area of people they don't like, meaning minorities, through police intimidation, a completely corrupt court system, and even voter intimidation. They are currently trying the main community organizer for all sorts of bogus charges, here is his blog, Rev. Pinkney http://bhbanco.blogspot.com/

I am sure you can get more info there, I dont know all the story, but it is really bad.

edit: I have met Mr Pinkney, he is a great guy, and he has a Harvard Lawyer representing him basically Pro Bono (met him too)

18. From my link
SUMMARY:
Benton Harbor is the poorest city in Michigan. Ninety (90%) percent of the people live below the poverty level and seventy (70%) percent are unemployed. Almost all of the citizens are black. The land is very valuable real estate. Whirlpool, already dominant in the area, wanted much of this land for a small price. It needed approval of six (6) of its commissioners. BANCO (the Black Autonomy Network Community Organization), led by Rev. Pinkney , succeeded in a recall election of a key commissioner. A suit was brought to set aside the election alleging fraud. Without sufficient evidence Judge Paul Maloney (who has been nominated by President Bush to the federal bench in the Western District) set aside the recall election and scheduled a new one. With serious money from local political forces the recall was defeated and the commissioner retained. Thus, the sale went through. Whirlpool detached the property from the City of Benton Harbor and attached it to mostly white Benton Township. It plans to build a $100,000,000 gated community, marina and Jack Nicklaus – designed golf course. Seeing Pinkney as a danger, corrupt politicians cooperated with the Prosecutor to produce bribed and coerced witnesses to say that Pinkney had improperly handled absentee ballots and had bought votes (people were paid $10 to say Pinkney paid them $5). Pinkney went to trial in the spring of 2006. There were two minorities on that jury. The trial ended in a hung jury. He is to be tried again.

30. See, that's where you misunderstand.
In the shop where I work, we say "four tenths" ans it is understood
that we mean ".0004 inches".

Your assertion that I am a fool is funny.

I fabricate components for large scientific instruments.

Your assertions suggest you have no clear conception of what is required
to fabricate precisely.

32. So
by your logic, if .0004 is 4 tenths, that would mean .004 would be 4, .04 would be 40 and .4 would be 400?

34. One more time, grasshopper

I didn't say that .0004 = .4

I said that in a precision machine shop environment,

we say "four tenths" and understand that it means .0004

It's a shorthand.

We're linguistically lazy.

It's just easier to say "four tenths" than to say:

"four ten-thousandths of an inch, calibrated to ten millionths of an inch, certified to the international standard . . . . ."

:hi:

Of course, outside of Michigan it's not so hard to admit it. People outside of Michigan always think of Roger and Me, but it isn't the same. I can remember running track in high school and our team getting ribbed by the rich suburb kids at their meets. "We have to hide the hub caps, now. Har har."

ETA I hope your girlfriend feels better.
