Freeper Encounter Last Night
A buddy of mine and I went out last night for a few beers at a local bar. We ran into some guys from school and sat down to chat.

The conversation was the typical college football crap with a little bit of shop talk.

Things were rockin' along and then I turned to look out the window and said:

"God damn it's so fucking cold out there."

The guy I had been talking with for the past hour turns to me and says:

"Yeah, where's Al Gore's global warming now?"

Sigh...what the hell is wrong with some people?

1. yeah, I had some guy say that to me yesterday as he was stepping off the elevator
no point in bothering to respond, really...

but it does make me want to somehow reintroduce to America the idea that education is important (and not just for job hunting).

2. It makes me question just how basic their thought process is.
Are their minds really so limited that they think that global warming equals warmer temperatures and since it is not warm that global warming is not real?

Ugh...all the more reason to adopt the term "climate change".

3. I hear that all the time and it's a perfect opportunity to inform
the smartass about what global warming means in the short term - weather instability, severe heat as well as severe cold, drought, floods, etc. - and what it means in the long term. I've surprised a lot of people by telling them that this IS what you can expect from global warming.

5. Did you explain the difference between weather and climate?
I find that most of them do not understand the distinction. Weather is what's happening now; climate is weather averaged over a period of time. And just because the average temperature has increased over the years, doesn't mean that every single day is warmer.
