The Great Backyard Bird Count
www.birdsource.org/gbbc

All you have to do is download a sheet listing common birds in your area. Spend at least 15 minutes at a time watching for birds. Write down the numbers and types of birds you see, then go back to the Web site and answer a few questions.

4. I know what i'll be doing tomorrow morning!
We have some really neat visitors in our area, including a red headed woodpecker and a blue heron.

7. A blue heron! That's sounds wonderful.
I'll probably have lots of hummingbirds and doves. If I'm lucky I might see a Coopers hawk. They're pretty cool and they get the neighbors wild turkeys all riled up. Yep, real wild turkeys... the birds, not the drink! :)

8. We get wild turkeys occasionally too
but they keep a long distance from people.
And the hummingbirds are all gone for the winter. LOTS of cardinals fighting it out at the bird feeders.

The big blue heron hangs out at a creek near the house, its amazing to see a bird that big actually fly.

9. That's cool.
My husband and I usually spend Saturday mornings watching our feeder anyway. We have a multitude of healthy birds this season to report. Thanks for posting this.

13. I find the more I watch the birds
the more I'm fascinated by them. We often see them gathering material for nests.
We've been lucky enough to even see a hummingbird's nest and watch the mama feed her chick. :loveya:

14. You're welcome.
:)
Even if it's snowy outside this is something that can be done through the window. And I bet kids would enjoy getting involved too.

15. I'm undertaking this all weekend if the weather holds out.
Just this morning I saw a slew of house finches (male and female, mostly female), an American Robin, a black-capped chickadee and a ton of these that I haven't identified.

Any ideas?

17. Here's a link from the birding website
that could help. This might be useful all weekend long. You can even hear the song of different birds to help in identifying them.
