How would you make the world an itsy-bitsy bit nicer?
Me, all the shopping malls I built would have shaded parking, available only to vehicles carrying pets.

How about single-payer national health insurance?

2. The first thing I would do is wipe out all laws against marijuana and
release everyone who is in jail/prison for marijuana related charges*. (* of course, this wouldn't include people held on other charges, with marijauna possession being a secondary offense. If you just robbed someone, killed someone, beat your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend/significant other and got caught with a bag of weed when you were arrested, you're staying in jail.)

Then we need to tackle the homeless crisis here at home. We need to start taking better care of our own citizens. Health Care for ALL... hmmmmm .... I wish I could be President for 2 weeks...

idea for my original thought though :) I was thinking more along the lines of "I'd pick up and properly dispose of all the litter I came across.

41. Mixed feelings on that, but...
I love your sig!

Mixed feelings because, although I do think marijuana should be decriminalized, I'm for regulating where and when it can be used. Not in public, not on the streets, not in regular bars, for instance. Unlike alcohol, people can get a contact buzz (plus the crap stinks like, well, crap). No such thing as a designated driver in a pot bar.

So I'd have laws regulating its use, but decriminalize it in general. I'd still never use it, but I'll never use Sponge Bob Square Pants band-aids, either, and I don't think they should be illegal.

And yes, release all prisoners held on only marijuana charges. Then re-evaluate all prisoners held on any drug use or drug possession charges. Anyone poisoning only their own body (and not driving under the influence) should not be punished for it.

However, I don't think that's the type of small change the OP had in mind... :)

19. Yep, pretty much.
Hell in the town next to me, the mayor is refusing to perform same-sex unions. The true irony is that town probably has the highest gay population in the whole county.

I can't wait until next week until the law goes into effect. Any NJ mayor that refuses is supposed to be kicked out of office. It might get interesting.

52. I honestly don't think awkwardness is the issue
I buy clothes all the time on my bike. I don't buy suits but it's quite easy to put a few pairs of pants and shirts in a back pack or duffel bag. People resort to cars because it's easier, not because it's required. There are some occasions where cars are necessary but personally I find that most destinations are quite easy to get to on a bike. But maybe I'm a wacko for thinking that clean air is a good thing. :)

58. I have a car because I live 45 miles from my job
And no, I can't afford to live any closer (rents are quadruple what they are where I live right now).

but, honestly when I would buy new clothes for a new school year, I go once (because I absolutely hate shopping), and I would buy 4 pairs of jeans, 6 to 8 shirts, 6 to 8 undershirts, 6 to 8 pair boxer briefs, 12 pair socks, 2 pair of shoes, a new coat, a back pack...

and then there's notebooks, pencils, book covers, pens, ......

and that's for one kid.

So yeah, it may not add up to 400 lbs, but it absolutely would be awkward to try and get all that on a bike. (and like I said, to have the kid w/ you would only add to the trouble.

42. No it wouldn't, it would just make people sit in their chairs and order
over the Internet. Then, instead of driving to the mall, someone would drive the product to their house, in giant gas-burning delivery vehicles. People would be in worse shape, and oil use would be about the same.

30. I like your idea, but I'd change it just a bit.
I'd make it available to vehicles carrying pets and infant carseats. Sometimes it just isn't practical for *both* parents plus the baby, carseat, stroller, and diaper bag to go into the store when you only need a few things. When one parent is waiting in the car with the little one, shaded parking is a priceless luxury indeed.

Then I wouldn't have to play this guessing game as to what size I should try on this week. :banghead:
