Beautiful (cold, but beautiful)!

10. Great pictures!
I guess birds do OK in ice storms.

The last time I was in one, the birds seemed OK, but the poor squirrels were grounded. They'd try to climb a tree and slide down. It was pretty funny.

15. Bertha, those are great pictures
I always thought cardinals travelled in pairs. Did you see two? (of course it's possible you couldn't get two of them in the same frame....)

19. Yes, but the female cardinal was not interested in being photographed
Mrs. V. has a great photo of a female - maybe she'll see this thread and post it.

25. Looks like you all got it worse than we did...
Edited on Sun Feb-18-07 01:47 AM by GoddessOfGuinness
There wasn't much ice on the trees. The stuff on the sidewalks and cars was a pain in the ass, though!

I had gigs on Thursday and Friday mornings; and both days I saw people by the side of the road with smashed windshields. I saw enormous slabs of ice flying off the tops of trucks and vans. It's a miracle people weren't killed.

26. Beautiful
That's nice food for them - I'll bet the black oil sunflower seeds go fast. We had a woodpecker where I used to live that liked the little oval white seeds. He'd chow down moving backward - oblivious that he was pushing every other bird off behind him.

31. Bless you for feeding them
Poor critters. Hopefully these photos will remind people to go out and buy bird seed. I feed the ones here everyday and every day the feeders are emptied out. Sometimes I go out in the yard and 40 or 50 birds will take flight. Mostly it is cardinals and chickadees, but there are other stragglers I haven't identified. I did see a blue jay the other day as well. Very nice photos.

The contrast of the ice and the bird's plumage
is fantastic.
