Cooking question, need a little advice please
I bought some fingerling potatoes yesterday but i've never actually cooked them before so i was thinking of cutting them in half lengthwise and roasting them with some olive oil, kosher salt and some spices i have. What temperature should i roast them at and do you know for how long, it's about a 1 1/2 bag. Please and thank you and any other recipe recommendations would be appreciated.

1. My dear chimpsrsmarter!
I have never cooked them that way.......but your recipe does sound yummy!

I'd put them in at about 350 degrees, and check them in half an hour....

Good luck!

Hopefully someone with more expertise will chime in too!

2. I've cooked them that way
and they will be delicious, but up the temperature a bit to 400 and don't season them until after you toss them with olive oil. Kosher salt is the best for these. They will get a crunch on them that is delicious, Thyme, sage and ground black pepper should complete the seasonings.

3. welpers..
about 425 for 20-25 min... after the 25 minute mark check one..take it out..play around with it with a fork.. try to taste for doneness if you can get it cool enough.. you might need to give it another 5-10 min....

be careful with just olive oil.. if it was me, I would also spray down a baking dish pretty good...

a small chopped onion could add a bit of flavor...

just be sure to watch for burning and stir em around once or twice

6. I'd cover them in loosely foil so they don't dry up. Crunch on the oustside, soft on the inside. Mmm

7. Olive oil
to grease them up, then toss them in a bag with paprika, rosemary, salt & pepper.. You could add some finely chopped garlic, too.

Now I'm hungry again. Sign.

9. I'd roast 'em between 350 and 400. And yes, I do know for how long.

They will be very, very delicious! I love fingerling potatoes - I used to be able to get them at the farmer's markets in NYC. Sadly, I can rarely get them now that I've moved away. It's so sad - I love the damned things. They're like candy.

Olive oil, salt, some rosemary...

or many other combinations of goodness!

They're also good just boiled in their skins and coated with butter and salt.

p.s. - sorry for the literalism in answering your questions. :-) I'd check them at about 15-20 minutes. They shouldn't take very long to cook, especially if you've cut them in half.

Until they are done.

12. She didn't ask how long, she just asked if we knew how long.
:P:P:P:P:P:P

But I did answer her at the bottom of the post - I would think 15-20 minutes is a good time to check them. it does depend on the size of the fingerling, though - I've seen a wide variety of sizes in what is called "fingerling", but 15-20 should do it.

14. I know.
But that's why I don't know how long. Until they're done. Might be 15 minutes, might be 30.

My daughter hates it when I give her this answer.

"How long do I roast the chicken?"

Until it's done.

"How long do I cook the hotdish?"

Until it's done.

When my son is old enough to cook, that'll drive him batty. He needs everything measured (including time) in a very minute, precise way.

15. Oh, I get it - you were answering your own question.
Now I see the joke!

Yes, "until they are done". The perfect answer!

13. Put on an oven mitt and squeeze 'em.
When they're soft, they're done.

16. I just poke 'em with a fork
When it's at a consistency I like, I stop cooking.
