I need to buy a nice coffee grinder for Valentine's day

3. Go with a burr grinder

over a blade grinder.

Burr grinders produce uniform grains of coffee which lead to a much better cup of coffee. Blade grinders mangle your beans and produce a grind that is logged down with dust, irregular in size, and pulverized more than ground. All three of these things make coffee taste bitter, bad and/or muddy.

More important than what you use to brew coffee and actually more important than the bean is the quality of your grind. Even a bad burr grinder is worth the $.
