What music have you listened to recently?
Yesterday, I listened to The Shins' Wincing The Night Away, Katharine McPhee's self-titled CD, and Melissa Chester's Honeybee. The Shins' new CD is at least almost as good as Chutes Too Narrow. I'll be buying Oh, Inverted World soon. I liked the ballads "Home" and "Ordinary World" from Kat - "Over It" and "Not Ur Girl" are my other faves. Kat's CD did not live up to my hopes, but it's worth buying for fans. Melissa Chester's Honeybee is one from last year that I highly recommend - some songs sound like Alanis, but in her own unique way.

Today, I heard samples from Lucinda William's upcoming West at her MySpace and All Music Guide, samples from Mary Chapin Carpenter's upcoming The Calling at All Music Guide, and samples from Maria Taylor's upcoming Lynn Teeter Flower at her MySpace. I'm a little worried about a sameness in Lucinda's new music that gets dull. "Are You Alright" sounds nice, as does "Words," but I thought some of the samples weren't up to her standards. Ken Barnes from USA Today said that this CD might equal Car Wheels's glory, but that's a very tall order. Mary Chapin sounds great as always, and I got a big crush on Maria after watching an interview with her - Maria's music also sounded good.

8. Songs for Sixty Five Roses
It's an album of covers of NC music done by NC musicians. It's a benefit for cystic fibrosis research since the daughter of the legendary NC musician/producer John Plymale has that disease. Some of the performances are stunning, especially Eric Bachman's stark reworking of the shiny happy Let's Active song Every Word Means No.

20. I did enjoy....:)
the soundtrack is very good...I think a lot of the big band themes for movie soundtracks are rather good...

Some of my faves in that regard.

Gladiator

Jurassic Park

Last of the Mohicans

All three of the LOTR movie soundtracks

Dances with Wolves

I usually listen to those when I'm in a reading/studying/writing mode...helps the creative juices...:D

Edited on Wed Feb-07-07 08:06 PM by mvd
These are my favorite genres:

1) Classic rock
2) Power pop, pop/rock, rock, folk, singer/songwriter, Motown
3) Modern rock, alternative
4) Classical, older R&B
5) Country, alt-country

Soundtracks wouldn't be close. I think any music fan can get something out of the O Brother soundtrack, though.

Good talking with you, petersond!

30. I do enjoy these talks...
What I need to do is get some jazz/blues, and try it out a bit more...I'm just of the bleh mind right now.

My main genre's

1. Heavy Metal...not death metal, screaming/growling like a mt. lion.

2. Classic Rock, aka Hendrix, Doors, Zeppelin

3. easy listening-Celine Dion, Sarah Mclachlan....

4. Soft Rock-Bryan Adams, things like that...

5. Dance-I hate to admit it.

6. Country-Alison Krause and Union Station, Josh Turner....I do have a very soft spot for applachian picking society type cds.

36. Ranking system, what do you mean
I would think a poll would be good enough...by ranking, do you mean, eveyrone rank how they feel about particular genre's?

Like listing 9 genre's, and having people grade how the "feel" about each one?
