Best vacuum for people with allergies?
severe allergies?

My income tax refund should post on Friday and I'm looking at replacements for a Hoover I got a few years ago. I have cats and live in an old farmhouse with forced air heat. Dust is a huge problem, even when the filters are changed every 30 days.

Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

:)

1. I love my Dyson.
They're a bit spendy but I would buy one again in a heartbeat. The "animal" attachment is amazing for getting fur off of furniture.

6. I was looking at Dyson
the "Animal" model is less than $500 now. I never dreamed I'd be looking at a vacuum for $500 but I need to really get the carpet and floors clean.

11. It's unreal, isn't it?
Before I got my Dyson I had Hoovers and I was going through one a year. I wasn't buying the top of the line but not the cheapies either. The Dyson doesn't use bags and doesn't break belts. I've now had the Dyson for 3 years and I figure that between the bags, belts and considering in the cost of my "throw away" vacs I've actually come out ahead by spending the extra for the Dyson. Plus it works so amazingly better than any other vac I've ever used. I totally drink the Dyson Koolaid.

12. Hoovers are so bad
with the grit and dust kicked out the exhaust that either I wear a mask or Lelapin has to vacuum and I leave the room. As we say in the south, that ain't right. :(

7. An Allergy Buyers website
had the Oxygen model. I think it was under $400.

I'm going to nose around for feedback when I get home tonight.

13. Older generations
The newer ones cost around $1100 but you can buy the older generations for about $500 and they are still excellent. Mine is from the mid-1990's and works like new! You can even vaccum your mattress to rid of dustmites (big culprit in allergies). ;-)
