Man Killed After Jumping On Side Of 18 Wheeler - Driver Wouldn't Give Him Ride

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A man has been killed after he fell off the side of an 18-wheeler after the driver refused to give him a ride, authorities say.

Emmett Shane Clay, 45, was hit by the tractor-trailer after he lost his grip Monday night and died at the scene, Greenville County deputy coroner Kent Dill said.

Clay asked the truck driver for a ride and the driver refused, saying he wasn't allowed to pick up passengers, authorities said.

Clay climbed on the side of the tractor-trailer without the driver's knowledge and fell off as the truck rounded a curve on a frontage road along Interstate 385, Dill said.
