Hell of a day in court

Listened to the victim impact statements from the family of this guy who was killed by a hit and run driver. I was sitting beside the defendant's mother. She broke down during the reading of the statement from the man's daughter... I mean really broke down. I wanted to hug her, or something. She was all alone. No other family there. And the statement they were reading just went on and on and was so sad and terrible. I was thinking, "Good god, for the sake of this poor woman; can we not stop reading this aloud?"
Poor woman.
Turns out the guy is very dumb too.... IQ of 80. So this poor woman has just seen her son, who can't REALLY help it.... going to prison for ruining the lives of a whole family. And no one was there for her.
