My three-week mystery illness? Apparently a form of bronchitis

I'm on the mend, but I'm still having coughing jags that are a wee bit productive.

I know a bunch of other DUers across America have had the same thing - sore throat, sinus pressure, coughing, wheezing, lots of phlegm, possible body aches, and the symptoms seem to get worse at night. If this sounds like you, then it's probably a "gentler" form of bronchitis that feels more like a sinus infection.

1. Bronchitis can be

kind of tricky sometimes. I had a cold for a couple of weeks. A cough stayed with me for weeks afterward. However, I only coughed first thing in the morning and at night after going to bed. After about three weeks, I thought I should go to the doctor. Now, keep in mind that I felt fine. It was just a cough. About half way to the doctor's office, I almost turned around to come home because I felt kind of ridiculous going to the doctor when I felt so good. But, I went to the doctor as I decided I would take my chances on looking foolish for wasting his time.
After he examined me, he walked over to the door saying he was going to give me a shot. As he walked through the door he said, "you've got walking pneumonia and bronchitis". I then thought to myself, "damn, I'd better lay down---I'm sick!":silly:

3. Glad you're feeling better. I'm finally on the mend, too.

I had the flu, complete with a 5day lo-grade fever and all the other symptoms you mentioned. Ugh.

4. I had acute onset viral bronchitis recently.

I had been caughing and suddenly one day I couldn't get any air on my left side and it was very distressing. I went to the emergency room. They called in a respiratory therapist who gave me a diffusion thingy connected to an albuterol inhaler. They also gave me a steroid shot and some strong antibiotics.

I've recovered now thankfully. Hopefully you wont have to go through all of that!
