Funny story Eddie Murphy told on "Inside the Actor's Studio"

Really great interview.

So Eddie was 16 or 17 and was working in a club in Ft.Lauderdale when who should walk in but Rodney Dangerfield. All the comics were nervous to do their bit in front of Rodney but not Eddie. He did his thing (KILLED too) and goes back stage and gets read the riot act by Rodney.

Dangerfield mostly said that his language was too harsh. No reason to use such language it would really cut off a lot of audience to his act too.

Eddie was crushed.


5 years later they hadn't spoken at all. Eddie was on SNL at this point carrying the show. Eddie goes into a bathroom at Ceasar's Palace in Vegas and who should step up to the urinal beside his but Rodney himself.

Rodney looks over at him and says "Who knew?" :shrug:

1. I, for one, have found Murphy far more tolerable - good even - after he stopped the crap.

I found him nothing but a foulmouthed jackass years ago. Who knew there was actually a creative, intelligent person behind that face?

I'm glad he's stopped the ridiculously overdone language and whatnot. Much better.

Not that overdone language is bad in and of itself, it's just that Murphy couldn't do it well. Bill Hicks could do it. Lenny Bruce, that other comedian guy who burned himself smoking crack and was in "Toy Story" could do it.

Murphy just sounded like he was trying too hard to be edgy because he knew he had to make up for having no content.
