Astronaut charged with kidnap attempt
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 10:46 AM by XNASA
I know this is a duplicate, but there was no fuckin' way I can ever get in before matcom on this kinda story.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/nation/4529722.html

--CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — A NASA astronaut charged with attempting to kidnap a romantic rival in a love triangle with another astronaut was ordered released on bail Tuesday on the condition that she not contact the alleged victim.

The judge told Lisa Marie Nowak she could be released on $15,500 bond, then asked if she understood the conditions. She responded "yes."

Nowak, a married mother of three, stood in a jail uniform, usually facing down during the hearing. She planned to return home to Houston, and the judge ordered her to wear a tracking device.

The 43-year-old robotics specialist faces charges including attempted kidnapping, attempted vehicle burglary with battery, destruction of evidence and battery.

Police said she drove 900 miles, donned a disguise and was armed with a BB gun and pepper spray when she confronted a woman she believed was a competitor for the affections of Navy Cmdr. William Oefelein, an unmarried fellow astronaut.--

This is why I resigned by position at NASA. Those people are nuts.

1. This is just bizzare.
It's worse than that other story. Remember the one about the astronaut who found that bottle with a genie inside of it? That was weird too.

8. Does she have to wear the tracking device when she goes up in space? LOL
so weird. Yes astronauts appear human with the ability to some degree to commit crimes. This appears a first for me.

God speed John Glenn.

2. She's the new "Runaway Bride".
Now we'll be hearing about this for weeks. How could she not know she would get caught and become a national freak show? And a diaper? Come on!

3. What's really weird is.....
When I worked at JSC, I wanted to write a script for an soap opera called, "Clear Lake" because I would have never run out of weird material.

But this story is even weirder than anything I could have come up with.

4. I guess she was planning for a long drive, without the ability
to stop for very long. Good planning, poor execution

5. This is the kind of thing Navy Captain's don't want to be
exposed during Admiral Selection Board's. Conduct unbecoming indeed.

Admiral candidate charged with attempted kidnapping - check
Admiral candidate involved in messy love triangle with another Naval Officer - check

XNASA, it seems the Navy folks here are nuts, however I'm well familiar with some of the loons who work for NASA.

6. Love is strange.
I can imagine someone being driven off the deep end because of love....but not someone who passed multiple astronaut screenings and psych tests, etc.

On the other hand, working at NASA is romantic. I guess anything can happen.
