My car got stolen last night.
Edited on Mon Feb-05-07 10:39 PM by HeeBGBz
Joyriders evidently. I have an old Caprice Classic and it's one of those fixer upper cars. It was locked and in my designated apartment spot last night and this morning I left to go to work and no car.

Cops called me this afternoon and said it was found. It was abandoned in the next town over and towed. Steering column broken and don't know if it will start up. Plus I have to pay the towing and storage charges.

I couldn't get over there to pick it up today, so they will add another $25 tomorrow. Sux to be me.

2. What is your deductible on your insurance? or is it just to pay for the 'other guy'?
That REALLY sucks..does your city have some sort of victim pool where you can be reimbursed for being a victim?

5. Just liability
I don't know about a victim pool. I'm just learning as I go.

6. the good part is that the cost is cheaper than *replacing* the car..
if you didn't have theft insurance. I let one of my employees borrow one of my trucks yesterday to go see his child in S.C. I got a call today that he was in jail for DUI and my truck was impounded.... in N.C. ...
so I have to drive there in the morning, pay $175 to get my truck out of impound, plus pay for the gas to get it back home. Some days it just doesn't pay to be nice...

7. Damn and Damn..
I am sorry that both of you had to experience this bullshit.

We have people up in WA that have stolen over 150 cars and still get released.

I think the crime needs to be treeted more seriously.

25. Hey!!!
Had to deal with that last spring. If it's in tbe state impound yard in that small town above Wilmington; please be advised you HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO get the the car out of impound.
(major assholery). The lady at the counter was nice to me but my tow truck driver told me that she had been a bitch to some other ppl.
Sorry about that and good luck. It cost me a total of $300 to get my car home.

8. You're lucky
I had my car stolen in 2000 - a beautiful Honda Civic Si. The cops told ME that if it wasn't found in 2 days, it was either spare parts or shipped out of country.

And the insurance never covered the true cost.

10. Nice to have that choice
At the time, I was moving and needed some wheels desperately.

I still do, now that I live 40 miles from my place of employment.

20. That's life in a small town.
I can walk to any place in town in under 15 minutes.

Hell, I don't even have a driver's license any more.

But I did buy a car for emergencies.

Fortunately, I haven't had any of those.

11. What a shame.
Among the reasons I drive a stick shift is that it would tend to slow down any car-jacker or thief. Although it's not a guarantee, I realize. And every time I read the lists of "most stolen cars" I'm happy to see that what I drive is never in the top ten, probably not in the top twenty. But I'd have thought an old Caprice Classic wouldn't be a desirable one to steal, so what do I know?

21. Caprice Classics pimp out real nice
I've had a bunch of guys express interest in buying her. It's a good ole car. I don't appreciate the midnight test drive, however.

87 Caprice is the third most stolen car in Mississippi. Mine was three years newer.

24. I would never have guessed it's such
a popular car to steal. But what I know about cars, especially what makes them desirable to thieves, is very little.

14. Oh yeah. It got worse..
The first time it was stolen on the first night of a 10 day road trip and recovered the next night. When I finally was able to pick it up it cost me $240 in towing and impound fees just to get my car stolen.

Those Caprice Classics are BIG in Detroit...they love doing the DUB with 'em
(WARNING - Flash heavy - don't click with dial-up):

http://www.dubpublishing.com/

There are about 4 or 5 of them in my neighborhood, in various states of completion. It's a big deal in some urban areas. Huge wheels, basically.

Personally, I loved the Caprice Classic back in the day; Mom and Dad had them when I was learning to drive. I miss those cars. They taught me a lot about snow and RWD.

It's just sad that people have to deal with folks stealing their cars, regardless of reason.

On edit: I'm not thinking straight (this is not new).

17. If you are insured, they will fix it up for you.
My husband's truck was stolen and the police found what was basically the frame. Everything else was gone, stripped off. The insurance paid for it to be built from scratch. He got what amounted to a new car. I wondered why they just didn't give him a new car. It seems to me it would have been cheaper.

18. OMG, that happened to me, years ago. My old Chevy Impala convertible.
1967, rusted wheel wells, missing one of the fancy wheel covers, absolutely couldn't figure out why somebody would steal it. All the cars parked next to me were fancy mercedes, BMWs, even a Jaguar.

Who knows? They found it in a couple weeks and the only damage was where they'd torn out the glove compartment from underneath. Guess they didn't know that you had to push the button in and then hit the door hard with your fist to get it to open.

So sorry, though. I'ts really a pain to go through all that, though I'm glad they found it. It's be worse to have to try and replace it.

27. Before you buy another car.
Some models are easy to pop the lock and start with a screw driver. so the kids find it easy to steal them. Ask the tow truck driver what the car of choice is for low life scum bag car thieves.
Pray to someone you get an opportunity to kick some ass.
