2. Bowie doesn't remember most of the period from '74 to '76.
He was doing so much coke that he was down to 115 pounds at one point (pretty serious for a man who's 6'2"). And then there was the interview where he said, in essence, that Britain was ready for a fascist leader and that he might be the man for the job. On the evidence, I'd say he probably out-drugged the others.
