I just wrote a check for $4713.03

And dropped it in the mail. It was the pay off on one of my credit cards. I now owe about $13,000 for another credit card and a college loan. After that is paid off I will be debt free. It's probably going to take me until the end of this year to do it.

If you want to feel empowered try paying off all of your debt. I never appreciated being debt free when I was younger. Hell, back then $500 was a lot of money and I never would have dreamed of being $30,000 in debt aside from my house. That debt was like a bowling ball tied around my neck. I couldn't live like I wanted to with that debt haunting me. I find it hard to believe that people will pay that much money just for a car.

I have recently sold my house so I will be totally debt free by the end of this year. I am never going to buy anything again unless I have the cash to do it.

I was so stupid - I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Now that I am debt free I want to stay that way. I don't even want a credit card even if I am a millionaire. I don't want to owe anyone anything. I thought about getting one recently since I got my own place but I don't want to take any chances because once you make that first charge, you can't take it back.

9. You know what's funny? If you try to pay cash for some things, people get

suspicious. I had some medical tests done in San Francisco this past summer and my parents went with my wife and I. We were checking into our hotel and my father was going to pay cash. You would have thought that he had committed a crime the way the hotel staffer acted. My father had to fill out a paper with additional info and they took a copy of his driver's license. I couldn't believe it.

I cannot imagine trying to buy airline tickets with cash.

Credit card companies and all the other business associated with them are very very powerful - and they like it that way.

People who deal in cash are really hard to keep tabs on - big brother doesn't want that.

I bought my tickets with cash from airlines. Money is money - and at least with cash they know they are paid.

8. When my wife and I bought our first house, our mortgage guy couldn't believe

that we had no debt. He told us that about 5% of his clients had credit scores as high as ours. We have some credit card debt now and it is killing me. As soon as I get my tax refund, it is all going towards the credit card.

10. It is empowering isn't it? Now, take that $13000 and roll it on to

a zero APR card, for 12 months if you can get one. You will be able to pay it off much faster that way and NOT pay evil interest.

I came out of my divorce with debt and locked-in retirement savings.

They changed the law in Alberta last year, which is where I accumulated the accounts, and I could withdraw some. I started the process a couple of weeks ago.

Yesterday I went through the drive-through ATM machine to get some cash, looked at the transaction slip and went WTF?

The money had come through, I drove home and paid off ALL my debt.

I haven't felt like this in a long time; it's a weight lifted.
