1. Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!
Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!

Phil's official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler's Knob:

El Nino has caused high winds, heavy snow, ice and freezing temperatures in the west.
Here in the East with much mild winter weather we have been blessed.

Global warming has caused a great debate.
This mild winter makes it seem just great.

On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring?

On Gobbler's Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way.

9. I always wondered how much time elapsedin Groundhog Day. It takes years to learn to play the piano,
so I assumed that it was years, and years.

4. from Wkikpedia:
Groundhog Day was first declared and recognized in Punxsutawney, PA in 1886. In the summer of 1899 a half dozen Punxsutawney citizens, the nucleus of the "Groundhog Club" first gathered on a nearby mountain and ate groundhog. In succeeding years thousands flocked to the "Home of the Groundhog" to participate in this end-of-summer feast. The accompanying publicity propelled the Groundhog Club to national prominence. The Club made their annual Feb. 2nd treks to Gobblers Knob starting in 1906. The Punxsutawney Phil appeared through five wars, was invited to the White House, starred as a character in a major motion picture and has appeared live on numerous talk shows. Even today, the "Punxsutawney Phil" tradition continues on Feb. 2nd in Punxsutawney, PA.

So, Groundhog day began as an excuse to EAT groundhogs.

11. Is there really even a need to?
I mean the name "Gobbler's Knob" is not-so-faintly filthy for those of us with minds in the gutter. What's the point of parody here?
