Anyone ever use the Postal Service Home Service?
My dad is recently retired from the postal Service, but he never did any of the home service things. Anyone here ever use it? What do you think? Likes and dislikes?

1. Maybe a stupid question, but do you mean when the deliver to your house?

3. No. There is some new service they're adding. I got this postcard in the mail:

I logged onto the site www.usps.com/athome

It seems like a good deal. I can pay for postage from home. I work from home and mail out a ton of stuff almost every day.

But, before I start using a service, I like to know what others think. Before I signed up for Vonage, I got some opinions from DUers and they were right- it's a great phone service!

4. I mailed all my holiday packages this way
It was so much easier than spending my lunch hour in line at the post office.

5. Oh good. I have found myself spending quite a bit of time standing in line.
I have documents that I have to send out many days during the week. I'm always out of stamps. If I can just calculate the postage at home and stamp it here, that would make it easier. I have a postage scale (well, I've ordered it, it's on the way) so I can see all the time I've stood in line now being used in a more productive manner.

6. You can only mail
overnight and two-day priority packages through the pickup request screens. I was disappointed that you couldn't just send regular parcel post.

9. Oh, so I can't run it with regular mail?
I often mail about 20 manila envelopes and a few envelopes each week. They are worth more than the regular postage because of their weight and size, but they're not priority. I was thinking of using the stamping feature and then just throwing them in the mailbox to be sent out.

*sigh* Back to standing in line tomorrow. :grr:

11. Wait...
Contact your post office. I think you can always send first class mail pre-weighed and stamped from your home. I thought you were only thinking of packages.

:)

12. I was just hoping to be able to run the stamping through the Internet, like the packages.
Oh well, I can always order stamps sent to my home on a regular basis- that isn't so bad!

8. I live in a small community
but work in the city. All my mailing would go through the city post office. Using the online service means my local carrier picks the package up at my house.

But I get where you're coming from. My dad was a postal carrier for 20 years.

My Daddy!
