"The Electronic Flanger and the Development of Early British Post-Punk"
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 11:06 PM by swag
will be the title of one of the papers I write when I next dream that I'm still in college and need to write more papers before I can graduate.

1. Change "The Electronic Flanger" to "Beating off to Can Records" and you may have something

2. I prefer my Can-jacking flanged.
Kind of like the old thing of "How do you like your coffee?"

freedom and dignity in this office.

5. The soundtrack is more likely to come without the paper,
given that I've finally started converting vinyl to digital.

If I cobble a disc together, you will be the second to know.

10. Don't forget heavily-chorused bass.
The essential post-punk effect, especially for the more gloom-minded. Oh yeah.

12. Point well taken, but isn't that a six-string that Hooky is playing in that shot?
Did love the chorused bass.

It meant a lot.

It is beyond the scope of my dream paper, but still a critical component.

13. Don't forget to put on some clothes before you go
hunting for your class in the classroom you can't find, and then you end up in a maze of bathroom stalls with a wet floor and, oh, hell, is that the alarm already?

15. Reimagine this narrative as Science Fiction-grounded and Martin Hannett
would make a convincing Darth Vader.

Jeff Lynne, of course, would be Obi-Wan Kenobi (those late-period Move recs all rock the flange pretty hard)

19. What a lovely mixture of the sacred and the profane.
Is it a sign of my increasing sophistication that I can't tell which is which?

but then again, I am not a dirty fucking hippie.

Edited on Tue Jan-30-07 02:10 AM by enigmatic
You gotta mutli-media this together, bro!:)

Lemmy, God Bless Him, was asked around the time Ace Of Spades came out what he thought about the Manchester Sound. Lemmy supposedly belched and said, "Just a bunch of fuckin' whiny sods in long gray raincoats cryin' about how fuckin' miserable the world is..."

Even though I loved most (if not all) of those bands he was talking about (and still do), I instantly became a Motorhead fan for life after that..
