Does Family Guy have so few jokes they have to overrun gags?
Last week it was a radio call sign re-used 8 times, each time was at least 45 seconds...

This week it's the baby thing dancing with Gene Kelly from that 1960s live action/cartoon hybrid...

1. I just don't understand why people think that show is funny.
It's content is shocking and they got that Simpson's style timing down on their slapstick... but 90% of their jokes are of the long-suffering-competent-yet-repressed female or the horny-yet-sexually-bumbling man or some other retread sex jokes. Or jokes about New Jersey. Ha! Cause who'd have ever thought about making a joke about how polluted and banal life in New Jersey is. Or, in the case of Family Guy, 20 jokes an episode about it.

Between the talking dog, the bossy-stupid dad, and the mad-scientist toddler, they've got so many far out "high concept" premises that they shouldn't run out of jokes or rely on repetition to simulate actual humor. Yet compare it to the Simpsons, which for close to 20 years has been doing so much more with so much less and still manages to keep it fresh.

2. I thought the episode was hilarious.
"She kicked that guy's ass -- like life and Dana Plato!"

3. Well, it's pretty good for a show written by manatees.

Don't you ever, EVER compare me to Family Guy, you hear me Kyle? Compare me to Family Guy again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand! Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like Family Guy, right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman!" I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after another!

4. Someone offered me a choice
They said "Orrex, watch three minutes of Family Guy, or we'll peel the skin from your body over the course of three weeks, salt it, and reapply it."

I happily chose the latter and would again.

5. They stretch a lot of jokes out too long.
They always have. I laughed a lot at tonights episode though.

9. I'm glad we don't do that here on DU ... douchebag!
We're going to get a lot of mileage out of the Edwards house and its lightbulbs, too.

6. Sometimes, they just might do that, but

that Falwell/Robertson scene was well worth the other 22 minutes of musical/dancing. Hell, I thought the Falwell/Robertson bit was the best I've seen in ages. If they had nothing else left to hate, they'd just hate each other. That's for sure. Jerks that they are.

8. Family guy is seriously overrated, and it used to be funnier.
But it gets old after awhile.
