I've never understood the bizarre shit that fashion designers put on the model for their shows. Would anyone actually BUY that? It looks like a burqa exploded.

2. My first thought with that flower thing over the mouth was that it was slightly misogynistic.
And the ropes and chains things doesn't exactly dispel that impression.

3. Agreed....
It's like some sort of ornate Burka. Ick.

Fashion shows are so ridiculous. Who designs ordinary cloths--you know, the one's people actually buy?

4. Well, I'm going to look her up if I ever need a place to set my tea cup down.
Yeah, it may be a mite misogynistic... But, the fashion industry as a whole
is kind of misanthropic. :D

if you consider the headpiece to mock the Statue of Liberty's angled extensions...

11. Things like that aren't meant to be consumer items.
Edited on Sun Jan-28-07 02:19 PM by primate1
It's meant to be textile art. Not many people seem to realize this.

13. its meant to be fantasy --wearable art--you are right
the runway is their way of putting on a play...the 'costumes' speak or there is a common recurring theme.

and on that note i think it is a success:shrug:

would i wear it on the street NO

but, did it get your attention YES...so it succeeded:shrug:

42. ding! ding! ding! winner!
haute couture is about showing off the imagination, AND the craft of the atelier.

these are extremes not meant for public consumption.

BUT -- this poster would be amazed at what goes on in some underground parties where fashionistas show up in their own creations in new york, l.a., london etc.

i have been to places where people come out in their own extreme fashions and it's always wonderful and creative.

and what's the leather underground, or the bdsm underground but part fashion as well?

fashion is your dirty sweat pants that you go to the store in as well as this piece by gaultier.

...the balsa carvings and masks usually seen during kali puja (Bengali festival honoring the deity kali). It's really pretty.

Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 06:53 PM by Susang
His focus seems to be on religious iconography and devotional art. Every single runway model had a nimbus of some type. The lace on this dress is supposed to be of the same construction as the lace used almost exclusively on altars. If you see shots of the entire collection, it makes a lot of sense and makes this dress even more impressive.

Here's a head on shot:

Seeing she is a runway model, she never eats anyway, so it's probably not a problem for her.

or those Vietnamese flat noodles. Also the design was Oriental so thats why I said that as it looks like noodles splashed onto the model in an Oriental design.

44. In "real life"--there'd be a body stocking or something....
Under the dress. And, of course, no headdress.

The runway is about show biz. Even ready to wear is presented shorter & more unbuttoned than it will appear on the "street"--with makeup & hair that make "statements."
