I found out something interesting yesterday
Well, interesting to me anyway. For a long time now I've been under the impression that Jesus forbade homosexuality. I just found out that he didn't say anything about homosexuality.

I should have known that especially seeing as how I grew up going to a Christian church, but it's been a long time since I've studied any religion.

I'd been wondering why some homosexuals want to be a part of the Christian church so badly. It seemed to me that if one religion made it a sin to be who you are then you would just search for a different, compatible religion. Buddhists, for example, do not forbid homosexuality.

Now I know.

1. No, the New Testament does not "condemn" it. The Old Testament does...
which is where the fundies get their opinion of "God's view" on the topic.

Yeah... eating shellfish is an abomination in the Old Testament, too. :eyes:

14. to be precise
the gospels don't, but some of St. Paul's writings seem to condemn homosexuality, and that's the New Testament.

Jesus, however, did explicitly forbid divorce, but that's not talked about in polite society.

3. Masturbation and sexuality in general seems to be a sin too...
It's amazing anybody didn't commit suicide after one act of hitting the sheets...

5. Every sperm lasts ~3 days. It's surprisingly, really...
Of all the ways to keep humans and fetuses (fetii?) alive, nobody's bothered to increase the lifespan of those poor sperm...

11. You're Right, What Jesus
is purported to say includes nothing about homosexuality.

In fact, some interpretations of anything anyone said about homosexuality have been questioned.

I just don't get it really.

13. You can be born gay and born a believer. You don't automatically
search out religion like a grocery aisle. Some people just believe in Jesus and that is it.

15. I don't think people can be born a believer
If that were the case, what about all the people who were not born believers? Jesus is supposed to love them, too, but they have no way of believing in him so they are going to hell for the way they were born?

16. Believers exist all over the world. Some people not. It is universal to

believe or not to believe. Both are a human way to be. Religion does run in some families more heavily than others. Same as being gay. That was my only point. They are not mutually exclusive. Me, I'm agnostic and don't take the bible literally but believe a man walked the earth who taught of love ...and changed the hearts of many. Religion was also used to kill and burn many. I'm not really coming down on one side or the other. I'm just saying that one can be born with a capacity to believe and gay people, born that way too, are just as likely to be believers as not. As likely as the rest of the population. One reason among many that it is a tragedy the right wingers got ahold of religeon in the USA...and try now to do the same with Canada.
